Heard a name I'd never heard before and I think it's really stunning. What do you think....

Gaia (pronounced "GUY-a")

Apparently, it means "Earth/Mother Earth".

What do you think. Beautiful or am I hormonal Grin?

Very common Italian name, I know a few in the Uk too. I like it.

meringue33 · 05/08/2021 22:53

Love it

DramaAlpaca · 05/08/2021 22:53

The actors Emma Thompson and Greg Wise have a daughter called Gaia. It's a beautiful name.

SherbertLemons · 05/08/2021 22:54

@FiloPasty another reason I really like it; my dad's Italian :)
I saw it was in the top 20 in Italy!

It looks beautiful written down, but in my accent it sounds quite ugly.

nocturnalcatfreetogoodhome · 05/08/2021 22:57

Friend’s daughter is called Gaia. Another’s is called Thea.

Had never heard either until they chose them, think they’re both stunning.

OublietteBravo · 05/08/2021 22:58

It makes me think of the Gaia Hypothesis (James Lovelock)

Goatinthegarden · 05/08/2021 23:03

Very bizarrely. I heard this name for the first time today too.

It was on a 5min video that auto played to me on FB this morning...about a starving cow rescued from an abusive lifestyle and nursed back to health.

Gaia was the name of the cow.

SherbertLemons · 05/08/2021 23:03

@OublietteBravo that's what my DP said; but in a good way

One if the 'houses' at my secondary school is Gaia

confusedlots · 05/08/2021 23:07

I know a Gaia, she must be in her 50's, a lovely lady, very stylish. It's a lovely name, really elegant.

fantastaballs · 05/08/2021 23:08

My rotty is called Gaia!! She loves to sleep under my bed. It's an awesome name.

Deafdonkey · 05/08/2021 23:09

@Nobloat21

It looks beautiful written down, but in my accent it sounds quite ugly.

Strokethefurrywall · 05/08/2021 23:09

I know a few Greek women named Gaia, it’s a gorgeous name

lurker101 · 05/08/2021 23:11

I’ve loved this name since I read the Fearless books as a pre-teen. Such a cool name

ElvisPresleyHadABaby · 05/08/2021 23:14

I know a Deia which I also think is beautiful.

SherbertLemons · 05/08/2021 23:14

As a woman who is far far removed from earth mother I am afraid it doesn't float my boat. Reminds me of Gaius in Merlin therefore a bit "one foot in the grave" dour and miserable. Can't think of the actor's name.

robotcollision · 05/08/2021 23:23

I like it. Looks pretty, I like the sound and love the meaning.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 05/08/2021 23:25

I've always loved Gaia. I think it's gradually becoming more popular now though in the UK as people look for the new Maya/Maia.

NuffSaidSam · 05/08/2021 23:30

I don't like the sound of it.

I think it sounds a bit medical.

It looks pretty written down though.

BikeRunSki · 05/08/2021 23:31

I know one who is 16.

Gaia was few goddess of the Earth in Greek mythology.

unim · 05/08/2021 23:31

I love it!

I seriously considered it for my first child but it doesn't fit with our last name unfortunately.
