Heard a new girls name today....

Heard a name I'd never heard before and I think it's really stunning. What do you think....

Gaia (pronounced "GUY-a")

Apparently, it means "Earth/Mother Earth".

What do you think. Beautiful or am I hormonal ?

It’s a very classy name to me. Quiet understated but intelligent? Colleagues called her daughter this and I just thought it was very timeless and elegant.

My rotty is called Gaia!! She loves to sleep under my bed. It's an awesome name.

My niece told me today she had invented a new name. She decided that as there was Harry and Harriet, and there was also Gary, then there should be Garriet. I can’t see it catching on.

Gaia is pretty popular amongst the alternative/hippy circles I know. This is not necessarily a bad thing. To me it's in the same bracket as the Sky, River type of name

Gaia was on our list for our DD. Didn’t go for it in the end. Almost worth having another baby just to use it!

J had a friend at Uni called Maya. Sge was Chinese and everyone thought it was Chinese name.

Turns out that her mother was reading up on the Mayan civilisation when she was pregnant and loved the name.

Gaia is a massive telescope too.

Sadly my daughters friend died in a horrific accident..her second name was Gaia ..it’s a beautiful name..go for it Xx

I went to university with a Gaia. She must be in her mid 40s now. She was the absolute embodiment of the name- warm, beautiful, gentle.

It’s on my theoretical future baby name list, however my DP said it’s a bit to crunchy eco warrior for his tastes.

I do think it sounds pretty but is uncommon so I think you’d be spelling it out constantly to people who were unfamiliar. Depends if that would bother you/your child?

There used to be a nightclub in Edinburgh called Gaia.

I know someone who has a black poodle dog with that name..

Lovelock was my first thought too. Then I remembered my Greek mythology.
If I met a girl called Gaia, I'd probably assume the parents were a couple of hippies.

Agreed. When I was in my floaty-skirt-and-essential-oils phase, there used to be a great hippy shop called Gaia in a local market town.

It's the name of a skincare range where I live, but it is a lovely name
