Thoughts on these girls names

Hi all,

I’ve posted regarding names a few weeks ago but we’re still very unsure on what to name our baby girl.

Opinions on these names and any other suggestions very very welcome!

Eliza - my favourite, but OH still not keen
Emilia
Millie - trying to avoid “ie/y” ending names
Darcie/Darcey - same as above and although friends and family like it too, it seems a very unpopular and disliked name online
Iris
Violet
Francesca
Isabella - both like but wanted something not as popular

Eliza, Iris and Violet are my favourites from your list.

Francesca and Violet are my favourites. I like Darcey but MNs think it's common

Francesca is my favourite of the list by a distance.

I had great aunts named Iris and Violet, so funny to see them back in vogue (unlike my poor grandma Doris - she definitely drew the short straw of the three!)

Eliza and Iris.

Violet is my favourite followed by Iris and Eliza.

Eliza - my favourite, but OH still not keen - I love this. I think of it as sassy and strong but beautiful as well. Would your oh go for Elizabeth and you could call her Eliza?
Emilia - I really like this too
Millie - trying to avoid “ie/y” ending names - it's ok. It always feels a bit insubstantial to me.
Darcie/Darcey - same as above and although friends and family like it too, it seems a very unpopular and disliked name online - I really don't like it. I just don't find anything attractive about it
Iris - love love love this
Violet - I like this
Francesca - I feel like I ought to like this more than I do but there were two in my year at school (Fran and Cesca) and they were both horrid so I suspect that put me off
Isabella - it's ok. It's just boring now.

Iris, Eliza and Emilia are all fab.

Iris and Francesca are my favourites from your list. I quite like Eliza too, but she may end up having her name shortened to Ellie, and there are so many Ellies out there.

If you're avoiding ie/y endings, I think it would make sense to remove Millie and Darcie from your list, which should help you narrow things down.

Isabella is nice, but it is very popular, especially when you factor in the different variants on the name.

I think Emilia will forever be spelling out her name and/or being mistaken for the more popular Amelia.

I like Francesca and Violet

Francesca is nice enough (but make sure you like Frankie, Fran, Chessie etc as I think it will be shortened). Isabella is nice too but I personally prefer simpler Isabel (and it is very popular sounding with all the Isabelle's and Isobel's about as well). Emilia is lovely but being regularly confused with Amelia would bug me I think.

Millie, Eliza, Violet, and Darcey are all too trendy now for me, I think they might date. I really like Iris though - I love that it's both a mythological name (mentioned in Shakespeare even) as well as a pretty floral name.

Viola instead of Violet? Camilla instead of Emilia/Millie?(would still give you the Millie nn). You might also like Julia/Juliet or Celia/Cecilia.

I love Eliza, Violet and Iris - 3 of my favourite girls names.
Francesca and Isabella are both nice too, although you have to like the potential nicknames for these as they are both likely to get shortened at school.
I don’t mind Darcey, Emilia and Millie, they just seem a bit boring/overused to me compared to your other lovely choices. Good luck.

I do love Emilia and liking it more and more; but I know I’ll probably get annoyed with having to correct people down the line spelling it Amelia.

Emilia - like but only as Emily-a (not Amelia)
Millie - could be shirt form of Emilia, or Camilla, or Millicent
Darcie/Darcey - ok
Iris - not for me - for everyone who thinks goddess/rainbow/flower, there's those who think eyeballs
Violet - lovely
Francesca - lovely
Isabella - nowhere near as frequent use as it was a decade ago. Go for it if it's the one you truly like

Also think about: Elizabeth, Alexandra, Emma, Rosa, Louisa, Belinda, Angela

I know an Isabella ( 30 year old ) and she has never been known as her full name. It has always been shortened to Issy or Bella for as long as I can remember. I'd just make sure you like all the potential nicknames for Isabella and same goes for Francesca.

Absolutely love love love Iris, we liked it for our daughter, but it sounds silly with our surname, so went with Violet instead !

Emilia is a bit meh compared to Iris and Violet ( sorry !) I think it would always be confused with Amelia. How about Emiline ?

There was a recent thread about Francesca.

It's controversial.

Eliza - I've always really liked this.
Emilia - This was also on my shortlist after Amelia became too popular.
I also love Emmeline.
Millie - love this either as an independent name or nn for Emilia.
Darcie/ Darcey - I'm not over struck on this. Prefer the ie spelling though.
Iris - I think it's pretty. I think of the flower when I hear it.
Violet - I quite like but dislike nn Vi. I would have Letty.
Francesca - I've never taken to this but not sure why.
Isabella - one of my favourites despite it being so popular. I also really like Arabella and Rosabella.
