What are your thoughts on the name Opal? I like it's vintage feel and the fact I've never met one

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Roselilly36 · 09/07/2021 06:39

I have never met an Opal either, I don’t think it would be a popular choice as Opals are gem stone considered to be bad luck.

Saltyslug · 09/07/2021 06:45

Pearl is also nice

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 09/07/2021 06:54

Fruit.

Mpsister · 09/07/2021 06:57

I don't like it

Mpsister · 09/07/2021 06:58

The reason you haven't met one is that it isn't a name

LincolnshireLassInLondon · 09/07/2021 06:58

Ive never met an Opal either. I like it.

tiktoknewbie82 · 09/07/2021 07:04

Love love love Opal!

elQuintoConyo · 09/07/2021 07:14

Steven Universe!

It's a pretty name, not too 'out there', more interesting than Pearl.

megletthesecond · 09/07/2021 07:15

It's nice but all I know about opals is that they're meant to be bad luck.

coulditbecominghome · 09/07/2021 07:16

Fruit

?

coulditbecominghome · 09/07/2021 07:17

Oh the old sweets from the 90s, yeah cause today's kids will pick up that reference 🙄

QueenAdreena · 09/07/2021 07:18

@coulditbecominghome Starburst sweets used to be called Opal Fruits back in the 90’s. It was the first thing I thought of too! I actually think Opal is quite pretty though, but I wouldn’t choose it if it’s associated with bad luck.

DinosaurDiana · 09/07/2021 07:19

Opal Fruits.

QueenAdreena · 09/07/2021 07:19

Sorry @coulditbecominghome, I cross posted with you.

spotcheck · 09/07/2021 07:19

It's very nice.
And ridiculous to say the gemstone is bad luck

Nitgel · 09/07/2021 07:19

Older people will sing 'made to make your mouth water' everytvery time the child introduces themselves.

CallMeNutribullet · 09/07/2021 07:26

I like it op. Opal is my birth stone so I don't think of opal fruits at all in spite of being the right age

CallMeNutribullet · 09/07/2021 07:26

@Nitgel

Older people will sing 'made to make your mouth water' everytvery time the child introduces themselves.
Why would an adult behave that way?
coulditbecominghome · 09/07/2021 07:28

Older people will sing 'made to make your mouth water' everytvery time the child introduces themselves.

why would older people do that?

ILoveStickers · 09/07/2021 07:29

I think it's nice, similar to Pearl. Gems are not my style, but nice enough.

I also think of Opal Fruits, but it's not as if that's bad really...

coulditbecominghome · 09/07/2021 07:30

@QueenAdreena I was a kid then but I would just think of the Gem personally.

rattlemehearties · 09/07/2021 07:32

It's a car...

BunnyRuddington · 09/07/2021 07:56

I think it's lovely and I've never met one either Smile

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 09/07/2021 08:01

The car is Opel.

I don't love it but I can't see a problem with it.

The number of people who would (a) know that very old advert and (b) think it was funny to sing the jingle* will be vanishingly few by the time a child born in 2021 or 2022 is growing up.

*My Dad, for example - sigh

MrsFin · 09/07/2021 08:21

Made to make your mouth water Grin
