It makes me think of Sadist.

I don't know a single Sarah with nn Sadie despite knowing a lot of Sarahs. Sadie can be a name without being Sarah on BC.

CandyLeBonBon · 07/07/2021 11:31

It's my DD's name. No one calls her a sadist by the way!

Mumoftwoinprimary · 07/07/2021 11:31

All the Sadie’s I know are either just Sadie or short for Mercedes. Never heard of it as a diminutive of Sarah.

CandyLeBonBon · 07/07/2021 11:31

It is a nn of Sarah but it's a name in its own right so no, it wouldn't bother me!

TatianaBis · 07/07/2021 11:34

I just hear sadism.

mistermagpie · 07/07/2021 11:38

I really like it!

If it helps, my son is something which is a version of my brothers name. I don't like my brother and we haven't spoken in years but I loved the name and it's completely my son's, I don't even make any connection between them now. If you have a Sadie she will make it her name.

lazylockdowner · 07/07/2021 11:41

All the sadies I know are dogs 🐕

Stormwhale · 07/07/2021 11:44

I love it. It would have been my top name, but it is my cousins name so was not really one we could use. There is one sadie in my dds school, so not too common either.

jackstini · 07/07/2021 11:44

I like it and know one - in her 40s
It does remind me of the song Shady Sadie but that's fine

SallySycamore · 07/07/2021 11:44

I think it's fine — it's more like Beth than Lizzie.

I always think it sounds a bit American, because the first time I came across it was in the St Clare's books!

Popcornbetty · 07/07/2021 11:46

I love it!

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 07/07/2021 11:46

sadism/sadist

hard pass

Popcornbetty · 07/07/2021 11:47

Doesn't make me think of sarah or sadism as suggested by other posters Hmm im sure for every name there is somebody will be reminded of something negative!

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 07/07/2021 11:48

I knew it was short for Sarah. However I only know that as I had a great aunt Sarah (Sadie)
I also see is as a name in its own right.

Krapom · 07/07/2021 11:48

My gran was an Irishwoman called Sarah nn Sadie. Both nice names.

Cocogreen · 07/07/2021 11:49

I love it!

ElizabethTudor · 07/07/2021 11:49

Gorgeous name.
I’ve heard it’s linked to Sarah. But no Sarah I’ve ever known has been known as Sadie. It’s definitely more of a name in its own right.

Palavah · 07/07/2021 11:52

Wouldn't bother me in relation to your partner's ex.

OhTheTastyNuts · 07/07/2021 11:52

I know a lovely 11 year old Sadie. It's a great name. No one has ever referred to her as a sadist!

I didn't know about the connection to the name Sarah. FWIW my son has the same name as my sister's significant ex. No one is bothered!

TheNameTheWebsiteForgot · 07/07/2021 11:55

Love the same and the Sarah / Sadie wouldn't bother me. Different names.

TheNameTheWebsiteForgot · 07/07/2021 11:55

Name * ffs

Lidlfix · 07/07/2021 12:01

Great name (I think Sadie Frost not sadism) but where I am in Central Scotland it very much is a diminutive of Sarah if that's a problem for you.

Isitpossi · 07/07/2021 12:04

Love Sadie. Don’t like Sarah.
I know it’s a nickname for it but I wouldn’t assume Sadie was a Sarah in the same way that I’d assume that a Beth was a Bethany for example

Yellowmoons · 07/07/2021 12:07

Wouldn't bother me - I see it as a different name. I quite like it and I know one - she's 3ish I think. Cheerful name without being frilly.

Blueskyemily · 07/07/2021 12:10

I know a Sarah, her mum is Sadie and this has never once occurred to me!

I think Sadie is a really nice name.
