Makes me think of Funny Girl 🎶 She's a Sadie Sadie, married lady 🎶

Almostascot · 07/07/2021 12:23

My aunt is a Sarah but has always been called Sadie. She is in her late 70s so I think the Sarah/Sadie nn thing is a bit old fashioned and doesn’t really happen anymore. Sadie is definitely a name in its own right.

PattyPan · 07/07/2021 12:28

I don’t really like it but there’s nothing particularly wrong with it as a name and I wouldn’t connect it to Sarah, I didn’t know it was a diminutive.

JamesGetIn · 07/07/2021 12:38

The four Sadies I know/have known ARE actually all called Sarah. I'm in Scotland so maybe the nn Sadie for Sarah is more popular here.

It was definitely an old fashioned name when I was growing up, but it's become quite quirky and cool.

The youngest of the Sadies I know is around 30. I really like it and have never thought "sadist".

Wouldyoudothesame · 07/07/2021 12:40

I love it, I have a friend called Sadie and she is a lovely girl that lights up a room! That's her given name rather than Sarah. I met a girl when I was very young who was a Sarah/Sadie but it doesn't seem very common so I would treat it as a different name and ignore the fact OH's ex is Sarah...it's irrelevant x

Sunnyday321 · 07/07/2021 12:43

I know of 2 , one a grown woman and the other a toddler , it's a nice name.

Mrsorganmorgan · 07/07/2021 12:46

Very nice name.

EmmaGrundyForPM · 07/07/2021 12:48

I really like the name. I've never heard of it being a nn for Sarah so that wouldn't occur to me. I think of it as a name in its own right.

VenusClapTrap · 07/07/2021 12:58

I don’t like it at all. No substantial reason why; I just don’t.

MadeOfStarStuff · 07/07/2021 13:11

I love Sadie

Unless your partners ex actually uses the diminutive Sadie (and none of the Sarah’s I’ve ever met do) it’s irrelevant

WithANameLikeDaniCalifornia · 07/07/2021 14:56

I’ve met 2 Sadies in my life. They were both horses

Chilldonaldchill · 07/07/2021 15:00

I love it and no, it wouldn't bother me.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 07/07/2021 15:01

I really loathe the name Sadie. It makes me picture a hard bitten woman with cold reptilian eyes and a cigarette clamped in the corner of her lipless mouth.

Don't know why because I don't think I've ever met a Sadie in real life.

c24680 · 07/07/2021 15:14

Love the name Sadie

userrnamemn · 08/07/2021 09:00

I love the name Sadie.

Chachachawoo · 08/07/2021 09:05

I think historically or originally it was a nn for Sarah but now it's a name in it's own right.

emmathedilemma · 08/07/2021 09:37

I really like it and i've never come across it as a diminutive of Sarah, the ones i know are all just Sadie.

TheRosariojewels · 08/07/2021 13:50

To me it is a diminutive of Sarah without knowing someone I would assume their real name was Sarah. However, lots of people now use diminutives as official names.

Peach01 · 13/07/2021 13:08

I love it. It was a close runner for me. Allowed myself to be talked out of it because it wasn't actually 'Sarah'. I love Sadie, don't like Sarah. Go for it.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 13/07/2021 13:29

Like Molly/Polly for Mary or Mae/Daisy for Margaret, I think Sadie (and Sally) sounds different enough from Sarah that many people won't even be aware it's a nn, so that wouldn't bother me personally from that perspective.

I do find Sadie quite trendy however (a la Nancy, Edie, Marnie etc - the "old" nicknames are having a resurgence as given names) so I'm not very keen on it myself.

romdowa · 13/07/2021 13:35

It's lovely and it's widely used in my family as a nickname for Sarah but I don't think many people really know about it is as a nickname for Sarah or would even make a connection.

OhNoNoNoNoNo · 13/07/2021 13:41

I love it. It's cool, feminine and strong. It also good for a kid or an adult.

The link to Sarah is too tenuous.

I dislike the name, don’t know why exactly but just don’t like the sound.

sel2223 · 14/08/2024 10:40

I love the name Sadie but went off it as there's a lingerie shop near me with the slogan 'Sadie, Sadie, the bra lady'

Never ever linked it to the name Sarah
