What do you think of this female name mostly given in Scandinavia?

I've never met one. If you like it then go for it Smile

bridgetreilly · 05/07/2021 18:34

I don't love it, tbh.

Leeloo1233 · 05/07/2021 18:35

Thanks everyone. Would the vulva thing put you off this name? So many people name their child this maybe once you see it on a person the vulva connection no longer comes to mind?

A street in Edinburgh. An elegant street.

miltonj · 05/07/2021 18:41

I don't like it but have no idea
Why people are saying it sounds like vulva... strange people.

ApolloandDaphne · 05/07/2021 18:44

To me it is a not very lovely small town in Scotland.

ThePearlOfDumbarton · 05/07/2021 18:50

Id never thought of its similarity to vulva before.
What about Elvie ?

singlehun · 05/07/2021 18:53

I thought of vulva

mooloop · 05/07/2021 18:59

I like it Smile

wtftodo · 05/07/2021 19:19

I have an Ailbhe (Alva) and she gets a lot of compliments on her name. Though most people think it’s Alba at first even if they’ve only heard, not seen, it.

No one’s ever mentioned vulva though I did have a wobble about myself before we named her - but vulva is a beautiful word, at least!

StarryStarrySocks · 05/07/2021 19:21

Like PP, when you say Alva, I think Clackmannanshire. You could consider that for a middle name?
Seriously though, there's much nicer names out there.

Rosesareyellow · 05/07/2021 19:23

Vulva, sorry. Looks nice written down - and in another language it would sound better (aalvaa) but the English ‘uh’ at the ruins it. Many names that end in a sound better in other languages.

Flamingo30 · 05/07/2021 19:25

I thought Vulva too

Eviebeans · 05/07/2021 19:31

Agree with drpet

Kanaloa · 05/07/2021 21:15

I think it’s nice. I do prefer Alba though, just based on sound.

TheLovleyChebbyMcGee · 05/07/2021 21:19

To me, it is the village closest to Menstrie in Clackmannanshire

ditto!

DramaAlpaca · 05/07/2021 21:21

@Anoisagusaris

I love it in Irish - Ailbhe. Don’t like the ‘look’ of Alva as much.
Same here.
SylvanianFrenemies · 05/07/2021 21:21

It is pretty but also says "Clackmannanshire village" to me.

Wbeezer · 05/07/2021 21:23

Me too but then it's only a few miles away, and while it has a nice park and a view of hills it's not a romantic place at all, a bit rough around the edges!

MoChridhe · 05/07/2021 21:27

Vulva.
How about Ava

TheYearOfSmallThings · 05/07/2021 21:28

I know a few little Ailbhes in Ireland. I like it with that spelling, and I like the nickname Alf.

QueenAdreena · 05/07/2021 21:29

I think vulva

Yeah, me too, sorry OP. Alba is lovely though.

MaMelon · 05/07/2021 21:35

Alva is an old mining town in Clackmannanshire as others have said. If you’d been there you’d know not the first place you’d name your daughter after!

WaitinginVain · 05/07/2021 21:45

I think it's a beautiful name. Also love Ailbhe but if you're not Irish the spelling/pronunciation can be an issue. Vulva would really not occur to me and can't understand why it would.

scrivette · 05/07/2021 21:49

Written down I thought vulva but not when I said it out loud. I like the Irish spelling of it (which is nothing like vulva).
