Micah - what do you guys think?

Would I constantly have people saying 'how unusual'? Or wondering how to pronounce it? (I would say my-cah)

For a boy btw...

Love it and I don't think people would have any issues with pronunciation. The only thing that puts me off is that it might get shortened to Mike which I'm really not a fan off

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 22/06/2021 19:28

absolutely love it.
also Malachi

I wish I had thought to use either instead of Michael. but DS thinks we made the right choice🤣

all our kids have Biblical names, I love so many of them (wish I had the guts to use Jerhro, Obediah and Zebedee as well)

Doidontimmm · 22/06/2021 19:30

I’d have assumed a girl and pronounced it Meeka

Katshouldnotswim · 22/06/2021 19:36

Lovely name, obviously masculine...

MikeWozniaksMohawk · 22/06/2021 19:38

My-kah is how the former footballer pronounces it although his name is often mispronounced as Mee-kah. It’s a lovely name but be prepared for confusion over pronunciation.

MaMelon · 22/06/2021 19:40

I don’t like it, sorry - it just sounds like Mike-uh

TakeYourFinalPosition · 22/06/2021 19:42

I think it’d be absolutely fine - Micah Richards is pretty well known now, and there’s plenty of younger Micahs too.

Lovely name. And Micah Richards is a lovely man!

You might get a few people pronouncing it Mee-kah, I think Mike-Uh would be unusual…

Aurorie11 · 22/06/2021 19:44

Biblical name, used to work with a lovely man called Micah, it wasn’t shortened to Mike

SGChome20 · 22/06/2021 19:44

I really like it and would pronounce it the way you do. I might actually put it on my boy name list!

FelicityPike · 22/06/2021 19:52

Good, classic Biblical name.

Killahangilion · 22/06/2021 19:53

Not overly keen because I initially thought you were talking about the mineral Mica (that’s caused serious issues in some new build houses).

But if you like it, that’s all that matters.

I chose a boys name that’s more common for dogs than humans, but I liked it anyway. Grin

GammyLeg · 22/06/2021 19:57

The only ones I know are girls- but still a great name.

TBC45678 · 22/06/2021 20:00

Hadn't thought about the Mike shortening! Not keen on that...

TenThousandSpoons · 22/06/2021 20:10

I really like it - I would pronounce it the same as you and would think it’s a boy.

Starshapeddreams · 22/06/2021 20:11

I love it! It's on our shortlist if this bumps a boy 💙

Cowbells · 22/06/2021 20:18

I like it.

MegaCityOne · 22/06/2021 20:20

Love it!

VenusClapTrap · 22/06/2021 21:14

Not my cup of tea.

BiBabbles · 22/06/2021 22:02

None of the Micahs that I've known had their names shortened to Mike.

I think it's a nice name, have nothing but positive association with it.

RuthW · 22/06/2021 22:06

The only Micah I've ever known was a girl

StayCalmX · 22/06/2021 22:08

Awful. Trying too hard.

scrivette · 22/06/2021 22:11

I like it and I have only come across one. I wouldn't have considered the Mike shortening and would pronounce it in the same way you do.

RightOnTheEdge · 22/06/2021 22:14

I like it. It was the little boy's name in Heroes.
I loved that series.

DramaAlpaca · 22/06/2021 22:14

Biblical male name pronounced MY-kuh. I don't generally like Old Testament names and this is no exception. On the positive side, it's nicer than Noah.

Mysterylovingboy · 22/06/2021 22:15

Makes me think of an old farmer, wearing a floppy hat, and chewing at the farm gate. But that's not necessarily a bad thing!
