Our baby girl is due in 2 weeks and we still can't decide on a name. I like all of the above but can't seem to settle on one. What's people's thoughts? Thanks

@StealthQuin

I love these threads as my name is actually Quinn, and I’m female Grin

I’ve never been mistaken for a man, or American. I love my name and have never had any problems with it!

It's so lovely to hear that, thank you for your post. Can I ask has anyone mentioned the whole quim thing to you before? And do you have a nickname?

The Mighty Quinn - please don't.

Havanalily1806 · 18/06/2021 09:57

I really like Quinn, if you are worried about the male/female I always think of it as female due to one of the main female characters on Glee being a Quinn.

My partner has vetoed the name for us because someone he went to school with (and didn’t get along with) had it as their surname 🙄

Definitely willow

Jasmine11 · 18/06/2021 10:16

I like Willow best from your list. Lucia is nice, and I prefer your pronunciation but you'd always have some people saying Lu-chee-ah. I only know boy Quinn's, but it's a unisex name, so why not. Niah and Mila are a bit meh to me.

AfterSchoolWorry · 18/06/2021 10:18

Willow, lovely.

SemperIdem · 18/06/2021 22:02

Quinn.

Mila, Lucia and Niah all have pronunciation issues. Mila seems very much like this decades Sienna - popular because of a very pretty actress, rarely heard before.

Lalliella · 19/06/2021 00:21

Mila and Niah are best (but would spell it Nia). Quinn makes me think quim (sorry) - did you get that one from the programme Daria? (that’s the only place I’ve ever heard of it)

PopOfNothing · 19/06/2021 00:44

The only baby / young Quinns I know are girls. Maybe it got a surge in popularity for girls after Glee.

I have only ever known one male Quinn, a lad who went to school with my DD and he must be in his early 20s.

Quinn would be my top pick. Love Lucia but the pronounication would be a sticking point.

lemonsyellow · 19/06/2021 07:43

Lucia - but the Italian pronunciation is the one I naturally use.
Mila - fine but bland.
None of the others. Definitely not Quinn. I think quim too.

MrPickles73 · 19/06/2021 07:59

I thought Quinn was a euphemism for vagina so it wouldn't be my choice..

M0rT · 19/06/2021 08:05

I love Willow and Lucia.
Quinn is a surname to me because I'm in Ireland, would be like naming your child Jones or something.
Won't matter outside Ireland though so if you like it I don't think it's very out there or anything.
Maybe wait till she's born and see what she looks most like?

KaptainKaveman · 19/06/2021 08:06

The 'quinny' was a medieval term for vagina, sometimes referred to as the 'quin' or 'quim'.

There’s loads of names which have less that desirable meanings/slag attached to them if you dig deep enough. It’s canny embarrassing that people are digging out the “medieval term” (or barely mentioned and documented term) just to put you off, like any kid in 5 years time is going to trott that out on the playground as an insultGrin

Plus connotations with names change over time, no one 50 years ago naming their baby girl Karen would have thought how that would have turned out….
