I've had a tough time finding girl names that I love. But as the due date quickly approaches (currently 30 weeks) we've nailed it down to these names:

-Francesca (my fave)
-Esme (DH's pick)
-Noémie (French for Naomi. My dad's French)
-Harlowe
-Este (Estée)
-Layla (I like but DH isn't keen)

As you can see our list is all over the place! What would you go with and any other suggestions similar to these are welcome 😊

Francesca and Esme are lovely. Noemie is also great.

Harlowe and Este are awful.

Layla is fine but not my personal taste.

I would pick either Esme Francesca or Francesca Noemie.

TenShortStories · 09/06/2021 16:43

Similarly to the pp, I love the first 3 but not the last 3. Francesca is probably my favourite of them.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 09/06/2021 16:45

Esme or Francesca.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 09/06/2021 16:46

Careful though, theres a Mumsnetter on here who has made it very clear that she thinks non-Italians using Francesca is "cultural appropriation" Grin

Noooooo way 😂😂 Is there an English equivalent of the name?

I love Estée and Esme.

DoucheCanoe · 09/06/2021 16:52

Francesca is one of my favourite girls names :)

Esme is 10 a penny here and Layla is not far behind.

The others aren't to my taste at all.

AdaColeman · 09/06/2021 16:55

Francesca is lovely, and the only one I like.

Other ideas with a French link
Manon
Claudette
Delphine

FindingMeno · 09/06/2021 16:56

Francesca and Estee.

haveaday · 09/06/2021 16:58

First 3 yes
Last 3 no

I like Daphne and Felicity

I also like Nicole for a french theme

Spied · 09/06/2021 17:03

Only like Layla from your list.
I also really like pps suggestion of Nicole.

Vikingintraining · 09/06/2021 17:06

I would choose Esme from your list.
What about Elodie? Felicity? Ines? Juliet?

Lille4 · 09/06/2021 17:07

Me too. It's my absolute fave but the DH doesn't think it's that great so forced to come up with other options.😩

Este - love it! Was 2nd on my list!

unicornpower · 09/06/2021 17:28

Not a fan of Esme, it's so overused at the moment. Francesca is lovely

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 09/06/2021 17:35

The English equivalent is Francesca. It just originated (7 bajillion years ago) in Italy and sparked something in that poster.

Same can be said of Gemma (Italian origins) but no one says the same of that very common British name.

TomorrowsPrincess · 09/06/2021 17:51

I have a Francesca! I absolutely adore the name, although we tend to shorten in to Frankie and use Francesca to grab her attention 😂

alexdgr8 · 09/06/2021 17:56

Francesca is the best out of those.
but it's not a favourite of mine. it's ok.
don't like the others at all.
do you live in essex ? harlowe ?
layla sounds just horrid to me.
and bound to lead to ribaldry.

atheist8mantis · 09/06/2021 17:59

The English equivalent is Frances.
As an Italian I'm not offended if non-italians choose it for their daughters, I just find it boring tbh (sorry). I was surrounded by Francescas growing up.

Grin I was coming to say that. What a freaking nutter she was.

It's beautiful OP. Just don't tell the weirdo. Grin

BackforGood · 09/06/2021 20:15

From your list, I'd only use Francesca or Esme.

I was going to refer to the thread Bernadette mentioned. That poster was bonkers Grin

partyatthepalace · 09/06/2021 20:23

-Francesca (my fave)- mine too!
-Esme (DH's pick) - OK, the different pronunciations might be a apon
-Noémie (French for Naomi. My dad's French) - yes like, prettier than Naomi (especially when mispronounced Nye-omi ). Might be a slightly hard work name in the UK.

I think Harlow, Este and Layla are all a bit bargain basement, and Layla sort of merges with all the Lola/Leah/Lyra/Laras knocking around.

Other thoughts - Marianne, Claudia, Stella, Esther, Sylvie, Cassia, Cecily, Verity, Felicity

VenusClapTrap · 09/06/2021 20:40

I love Este.

Strongly dislike Francesca but really like Frances.

Quite like Noemie.

Moonlaserbearwolf · 09/06/2021 20:49

Really like Noémie
Second favourite is Francesca - I know a lovely one who is known as Chessie.
Not a fan of your other choices.
