I've had a tough time finding girl names that I love. But as the due date quickly approaches (currently 30 weeks) we've nailed it down to these names:

-Francesca (my fave)
-Esme (DH's pick)
-Noémie (French for Naomi. My dad's French)
-Harlowe
-Este (Estée)
-Layla (I like but DH isn't keen)

As you can see our list is all over the place! What would you go with and any other suggestions similar to these are welcome 😊

Francesca or Esme get my vote

Greenbook320 · 09/06/2021 22:24

Esme x

BeeandG · 09/06/2021 22:38

Este or Esme. I like Francesca but my dd knows one and they don't always get along. Just to say I was set on Charlotte or Chloe for a girl but when dd1 came along she just wasn't a Charlotte or a Chloe! Have you considered Elodie, think that's lovely.

Synchrony · 09/06/2021 23:38

Definitely not Harlowe! Harlow isn't the nicest of towns! To me it's akin to calling your daughter Slough!

rach2713 · 09/06/2021 23:43

I like Esme I also like Erin for a girl ..

Chilldonaldchill · 10/06/2021 10:49

Francesca (my fave) - I like this. The youngest one I know personally is 13 and known as Frankie. But I prefer the full name.
-Esme (DH's pick) - I like it but it got so popular after Twilight that it put me off
-Noémie (French for Naomi. My dad's French) - I like this
-Harlowe - sorry but I think this is awful
-Este (Estée) - I think it will just get confused with Esther
-Layla (I like but DH isn't keen) - I'm with your DH. It's very popular and i don't see the attraction personally

TatianaBis · 10/06/2021 11:10

Francesca by miles.

No-one will know how to pronounce Noémie in the UK. The acute will get left off and she will be called Nomie.

Este will be pronounced Est. In Italian it's Estay - but how many people know that? Estée would be the French. But again the accent will get left off and she will be called Estee.

LewishamMum · 10/06/2021 11:11

Harlow(e). Not exactly Chelsea is it? Don't understand why anyone could like it, but seriously, she will be bullied and mocked all her life, so please don't.

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 10/06/2021 11:17

Francesca

I love Noémie (the Hungarian version is Noémi) but please don't make her life a living hell having to spell it.
I spend my life saying "my name is.... but k instead of c" - can't help it, that's the Hungarian spelling, my parents couldn't have imagined I'd marry a Brit & end up living in England.

but if you live in an English-speaking country I beg you, please only use Noémi as a middle name

don't like the rest

daisypond · 10/06/2021 11:24

Francesca or Noemie. I also like Layla but would be more inclined to spell it Leila.
Not the others.
The English equivalent of Francesca is Frances, but Francesca has been commonly used too for years.

finallychangedmyusername · 10/06/2021 11:40

Assuming you both like Francesca, I'd go

Francesca Esmé
Or
Francesca Noémie

Lenny86 · 10/06/2021 21:29

Definitely not Noemie - I know somebody with this name (English with French heritage)....people always think she’s saying, “No, Amy” when asked to clarify her name.

MerryChristmasToYou · 11/06/2021 12:55

-Francesca (my fave) - ok
-Esme (DH's pick) - not too bad
-Noémie (French for Naomi. My dad's French) - middle name
-Harlowe - awful
-Este (Estée) - Estee is better but possibly too associated with Lauder
-Layla (I like but DH isn't keen) - not keen

Chunkymenrock · 11/06/2021 13:01

Esme is the nicest for me from your list.

Enko · 11/06/2021 13:54

I really like Este (Estée) and Noémie

I would take out Francesca and Esme of they are one of your favourite but the other is not keen both perfectly fine names imo a bit run of the mill.

I'm not keen on Harlowe or Layla simply not my style of names.

Blabla81 · 11/06/2021 14:08

I have an Ellise (original spelling Elise) which was inspired by looking at French names.
Careful with spellings though - because we chose an alternative spelling and didn’t stick with the original, we have exposed our “socio economic background” - according to a few mums-netters. 😬🙄.

Pemba · 11/06/2021 15:26

Not Harlowe, it's awful and tacky. Not a great town (apparently), also sounds a bit like 'harlot'. Only a surname, anyway.

I like all the others. Noemie (can't type accents) is pretty, and very unusual over here, I'd go with that.

I love Francesca! Not keen on the others.

What about Amelia? Felicity? Juliet?

Marty13 · 11/06/2021 18:20

Mmh well, Francesca is the best of the one's you've listed imo. Not keen on Esme because of twilight (and also because I don't love the sound it makes).

Right now the girl name I like most is Theodora (nicknamed Thora).

RickOShay · 11/06/2021 18:24

Love Este.
Never been keen on Francesca and don’t like Fran.
Also like Noemie.
Not keen on Esme.
Quite like Harlow.
