Longer boys names with playful nicknames - HELP!

It feels like I’m looking for a magic unicorn name... we’re searching for something that has a good solid sounding full name and then playful nickname potential. We like names that fit the perfect balance of not being super common but equally not eyebrow raising rare.

Some of the names we’ve thought about but annoyingly can’t use for family reasons / doesn’t go with our surname are:

Fergus - Gus
Rupert - Rupes
Theodore - Teddy
Barnaby - Barney

Hubby also likes Montgomery - Monty but I think this may be a bit full on for me!

If it had been a girl, we liked Juliet - Jules, Felicity - Flick and Minerva - Mini.

Anyone have a good feel for the type of thing we’re looking for that can help with inspiration for boys names ahead of his arrival?

Thank you!

Nathaniel nn Nate

Jonathan: Jonty

Like Iggy suggested, Alexander seems an obvious choice.

Benjamin (Ben, Benny)
Thaddeus (
Sebastian (Seb)
Jebadiah or Jedediah (Jeb/Jed)
Joshua (Josh)
Christopher (Chris, Kit)
Josiah (Jo, Joey, Jojo, Siah)
Zachary/Zacharias/Zachariah (Zach)
Nicholas (Nick, Nicky, Nico)

But to be honest I really like your list. I even love Montgomery but I feel you have to be a certain type of person to pull it off - definitely confident!

Use August or Augustus instead of Fergus for Gus.

It’s both “extra” and awesome.
