Longer boys names with playful nicknames - HELP!

It feels like I’m looking for a magic unicorn name... we’re searching for something that has a good solid sounding full name and then playful nickname potential. We like names that fit the perfect balance of not being super common but equally not eyebrow raising rare.

Some of the names we’ve thought about but annoyingly can’t use for family reasons / doesn’t go with our surname are:

Fergus - Gus
Rupert - Rupes
Theodore - Teddy
Barnaby - Barney

Hubby also likes Montgomery - Monty but I think this may be a bit full on for me!

If it had been a girl, we liked Juliet - Jules, Felicity - Flick and Minerva - Mini.

Anyone have a good feel for the type of thing we’re looking for that can help with inspiration for boys names ahead of his arrival?

Thank you!

Oh wow, so many suggestions thank you.

GAZZA BAZZA has to be the front runner now, lets see if I get that one past the husband @AndeanMountainCat!

I quite like Rufus - Roo and Tobias/Toby - Tobes and Diggory - Diggers. I also like Jonty/Jonno as a nickname but don't think I could get my head around Jonathan - anything else this could be short for? Thank you @IggyAce @Theoldwoman @Amelia666 @Chilldonaldchill for adding these to the list.

It's hard to be able to find a good full name AND nickname isn't it!

You’re very welcome!

Powerpuffpoodle · 29/05/2021 12:32

@Tillygetsit I love the nickname Ludo, and if the meaning of the name is playful that really is the cherry on top! Any other ideas on what it could be short for? I’m not sure about Ludovik and I want him to have more than just a nickname as an option...

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 29/05/2021 15:34

If you like Ludo, you might also like Rollo - could be short for Orlando (since that's the latinate version of Roland).
