Hi, We are trying to decide between the two names for our baby girl please help! Middle names will be May or Grace.

We have no connection with Scotland and have never been to Iona. Vita is latin and feels better but still unsure.

Thank you,

Vita.
Iona is getting common/ popular.

Serpenta · 17/05/2021 20:52

Funnily enough I was reading a book today in which there was a character called Vita and I thought to myself that is was very cool, 1930s Hollywood femme fatale vibes.

I don't like Iona.

JaninaDuszejko · 17/05/2021 20:52

Vita, Iona is very popular.

GintyMcGinty · 17/05/2021 20:52

Iona is lovely.

CanOfLilt · 17/05/2021 20:55

I like Iona but you need to take care re surname (ie avoid it if your surname is something like Carr/ House/ Park/ Poole!)

Accidentallydeletedoopsss · 17/05/2021 21:55

Vita! Lovely and unusual
Not a fan of Iona at all

Aprilwasverywet · 17/05/2021 21:57

Short for Ryvita?

Never been a fan of Iona - it’s too ‘vowelly’ for me. But I love Vita, which was on our shortlist for DD. Short, simple, underused, easy to spell/pronounce, good meaning, vintage charm plus Vita Sackville-West - what’s not to like? Smile

TatianaBis · 17/05/2021 22:13

Like both but Iona is prettier.

user1493494961 · 17/05/2021 22:13

I dislike Vita, Vita Sackville-West's name was Victoria, which is more classic. Iona is OK but there is a Welsh name Iona, pronounced similar to Yonna.

DramaAlpaca · 17/05/2021 22:17

I love vowel heavy names and Iona is really lovely. Can be awkward with some surnames though.

I like Vita, there's something simple and sweet about it but it has a bit of a cool edge to it, too.

I also like Vika, which is a diminutive of Victoria used in parts of Eastern Europe.

Buttercup54321 · 17/05/2021 22:20

Vita reminds me of the cracker biscuit Rye vita. Prefer Vera.
Also prefer Isla to Iona.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 17/05/2021 23:54

Vita is lovely - elegant and classy sounding imo (although I must admit I do think of it as more a nn for Victoria). Iona somehow feels a bit trendy to me - maybe because it reminds me of Isla.

MercyBodle · 18/05/2021 01:40

I think both are lovely, very cool names. I edge towards Iona, and don't see any issue with not having a Scots connection.

GodolphinHorne · 18/05/2021 08:19

Don’t like Iona. It reminds me of a girl I knew at uni who was a bit grumpy. Plus, it just says grey, wet island to me.

Vita is much more sparky and can be a short form of Victoria.

Sorry am useless with technology. Hopefully this shows the beautiful Isle of Iona, sparkling in the sunshine!

(Ok I admit it rains sometimes!) Grin

BraveGoldie · 18/05/2021 08:28

Lol no it doesn't! First picture is dour.

Oh well. Smile. I like both!

partyatthepalace · 18/05/2021 09:17

Well I love Iona - I’d make it an excuse to go there - it’s beautiful, and so is the name,

I’m not mad about Vita, though Vita Sackville West is obviously quite an inspiring character.

Grace, May and Rose are ludicrously popular middle names, so if you have alternatives you might want to use them.

theotherfossilsister · 18/05/2021 09:20

I love Vita May. To me Vita sounds quite literary, maybe because of the writer Vita Sackville West who I've never read but seen her books. I think she was in love with Virginia Woolf.

Iona is gorgeous too.

AvantGardening · 18/05/2021 09:42

Love Vita. It was on my shortlist but we had a boy.

HoldingTheDoor · 18/05/2021 09:58

Iona.

Vita makes me think of health food stores and Ryvita. It does have a nice sound though.

TatianaBis · 18/05/2021 10:25

Wow it looks stunning. I’d love to go.

MooseMoose · 18/05/2021 11:41

Iona is beautiful. It was in my shortlist but I was a bit put off by the 'I own a...' possibilites and I decided it sounded a bit clunky with our surname. Ione is also lovely.

Not sure about Vita, it's ok - I want to like it, but it sounds a bit harsh to my ears. Have you considered Vera? Reckon it's due a comeback.

idontlikealdi · 18/05/2021 11:42

Vita
