Hi, We are trying to decide between the two names for our baby girl please help! Middle names will be May or Grace.

We have no connection with Scotland and have never been to Iona. Vita is latin and feels better but still unsure.

Thank you,

Iona is indeed a beautiful place. Even raining!!
I knew an Iona at school.. A red headed feisty girl!! Suited the name perfectly!

DungeonKeeper · 19/05/2021 19:52

Iona. But thoroughly bored of May/Grace as middle names.

jaguarsearlobes · 20/05/2021 18:58

@CanOfLilt

I like Iona but you need to take care re surname (ie avoid it if your surname is something like Carr/ House/ Park/ Poole!)
I really liked Iona for DD but we have a surname that would sound something like this. Shame as it's a lovely name
Carouselfish · 20/05/2021 19:40

Vita is great. Dita was on my list.
Middle names I'm not keen on though.

daisypond · 20/05/2021 19:42

I like Vita

Honeyroar · 20/05/2021 20:07

Vita just means life. I find it a little strange for a name. Iona is quite nice.

Orphlids · 20/05/2021 20:15

Ooh, I love Vita. My DP vetoed it unfortunately. It’s punchy, cool, elegant, simple, uncommon and pretty. I do like Iona as well, but it is much gentler and doesn’t leave the same impression.

TempsPerdu · 20/05/2021 20:16

Vita just means life

So does my own name (Zoe) and Eve and all its variations, and Vivienne, and many others. Perfectly valid and pleasant meaning. And plenty of people couldn’t care less about meanings anyway - otherwise there’d be no one called things like Claudia (lame) and Cecilia (blind) and Leah (tired or cow) and Calvin (bald)! Grin

WaitinginVain · 21/05/2021 20:41

Vita definitely. Iona's a bit bland.

LostInTheLingerieSection · 21/05/2021 20:44

Iona is pretty but popular.

Vita I really want to like but I just don't. It's like a brand name for something, some sort of health food or supplement drink.

GreyhoundG1rl · 21/05/2021 20:44

Vita.

HarrisMcCoo · 21/05/2021 20:49

Iona. Beautiful name.

3CCC · 21/05/2021 20:49

I love Iona not keen on Rita

3CCC · 21/05/2021 20:49

Vita even

ZenNudist · 21/05/2021 20:51

Both are bad. Vita might get mistaken for Rita which id at least a real name.

Iona is a real name so you could go with that. It just makes me think of I own a ... what? I own a what?

Scottishgirl85 · 21/05/2021 22:49

Our daughter age 3 is Iona. We are constantly told how beautiful her name is.

Vita doesn't sound quite right to me, sounds like a brand name for a healthcare product.

toastofthetown · 22/05/2021 08:35

I love Vita. It's one of my favourite names and would be a top contender if I were to have daughter.

Is there a reason that you have selected May or Grace as middle names? Along with Rose they are almost ubiquitous in the middle spot (much like in my generation, almost everyone has the middle name Ann, Jane or Louise).

sju456 · 22/05/2021 17:50

Hey

Partners grandma was grace and sisters middle name. We are leaning more towards Vita now and possible wild card of Silvana Grace. Even thought of Silvita! So hard choosing when newborn sleepy
