What names do you like but you have only ever met one of before?

My sister is pregnant for the first time at 43 and wants an unusual but real name and wants some inspiration.

I named my own after only once ever hearing someone called the name.

names.darkgreener.com/ is a fab website that shows trends for names. My little girl is one of 33 with her name for her birth year and whilst we have met others they are all much older

EmmaGrundyForPM · 05/05/2021 08:54

There are twins aged about 7 who live near us called Bohemia and Seraphina. I've never met anyone else with either name although I do know of another Seraphina.

Dzidra a Latvian girl at school who sat next to me. She was a refugee after the war. She went to Canada with her mother and I always wonder what happened to her as we were friends.

I'm.amazed at some of the names people are saying they've only ever met one of

Me too!

Tania, Layla, Esme, Mark, Tobias, Steve etc... These are so common...!

EmmaGrundyForPM · 05/05/2021 13:32

It's definitely an age thing

I'm in my early 50s. Really popular names amongst my peer group are

Helen
Mary
Deborah
Alison
Linda
Jane

Mark
Steven
James
David
Paul

But they were very much of their time. So I guess it's possible if you never mix with 45 - 60 year old that you would never come across them. However, unless you work somewhere where everyone is really young, you must come across those names occasionally. Today I've already had meetings or emails with people with some of those names I mentioned above.

I live in an area which is really multicultural so have met lots of kids with unusual names that I could unfortunately never spell now.

Hilarious to me that Pearl has come up so many times, I know about 8 across a wide range of ages!

Booksandwine80 · 05/05/2021 18:42

I only know one Tabitha

babbaloushka · 05/05/2021 19:11

@SavannahLands

Secoya, and her Sisters name was Marantey, chosen by their Father who was a Craftsman Woodcarver, and the names come from a Species of rare Giant Redwood Trees.

We have a distant relation who named her baby Antigone, but it’s now been shortened to Tiggy as some people she met were unsure how to correctly pronounce it, it’s actually pronounced ‘Ant tig ony’!

I know of a Tiggy and always wondered what her her longer name might be... are they South East? Sister with a very typical name starting with M?
