Thanksgiving? It is too much?

Hiya, I’ve name changed here as I’m giving my child’s name so just using this username for this thread.
I’m due baby girl in a few days, (Dd3) and my DH and I are trying to pick a name.

We are really looking for a virtue name - we have Dd1 who is Honour, and we also had dd2 who sadly was born sleeping, due to lots of complications in pregnancy, who we also gave a virtue name.

We are looking for a name that marks the joy of having another girl after our loss and for what has been thankfully a good pregnancy.

We can’t use Joy though as a baby in our very close friendship circle has just been name Joy. Also can’t use Grace for a similar reason.

We are thinking ‘Thanksgiving’, as this conveys thankfulness and a sense of giving back for our blessing. DH loves it and wants it to be a done deal but I am thinking - it’s quite a mouthful and a big name to give to a little girl, what if it’s too much? And what would we shorten Thanksgiving to?

Can I have your thoughts on Thanksgiving, or if you think it’s too much, do you have any other suggestions?

We are Christians if that gives any context.

Love the suggestion of Blessing! Faith and Mercy are lovely too.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 01/05/2021 20:41

No sorry. It'd be akin to calling her Christmas.

I'm so sorry for your loss. Flowers
Do you like.
Rainbow
Blessing
Precious
Abigail. (Means her fathers joy)
Beauty
Angel

bluebluezoo · 01/05/2021 20:42

No sorry. It'd be akin to calling her Christmas

Which also isn’t unheard of, particularly in some cultures.

BunnyRuddington · 01/05/2021 20:42

Precious Cherish Serenity

Oh had forgotten about Precious. I know one and she is absolutely lovely. Really like Cherish as well and I think it would suit your other DD's names Smile

Lelophants · 01/05/2021 20:43

'Thankful' if you had to.

But the other options on here are nicer I think.

bumhug · 01/05/2021 20:48

Eliana is pretty and means My God has answered me.

BikeRunSki · 01/05/2021 20:52

I’m so sorry for your loss of DD2. Have you thought of Beata (meaning “blessed” in several languages) or
Benita (meaning “blessed” in Spanish).

Harmony?

JustMeAndWheatley · 01/05/2021 20:55

I wouldn’t. I think it will make her life a bit of a nightmare at school and in life beyond.

Blessing
Hope
Faith

would be much better choices. If you’re set on Thanksgiving maybe use it as a middle name.

SpiderinaWingMirror · 01/05/2021 20:56

I had an African student named Happiness, shortened to Happi.
It suited her, lovely girl.

BikeRunSki · 01/05/2021 21:00

Comfort ?

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 01/05/2021 21:02

As a PP said, I think the fact that it’s a holiday in the US makes it work less well than other virtue names.

Charis, Comfort, Blessing and Mercy spring to mind thinking of people I know.

Precious and Cherish on this thread are also lovely.

GroggyLegs · 01/05/2021 21:09

I love virtue names.
I would have used Patience if I'd had a girl.

I know a Moreblessings and while unusual, suits her so well.
Faith is also lovely.

SylvanianFrenemies · 01/05/2021 21:12

Agree that Thanksgiving isn't really workable, but appreciate the meaning for you.

How about Praise, Constance, Blessing or Faith?

LadyLolaRuben · 01/05/2021 21:14

Names can have connotations of thanksgiving without actually using the word. Faith, Hope and Grace are good examples

Oneeyeopen · 01/05/2021 21:42

I like Serenity
True would be a lovely name.
I like Blessing too.

Jumpingintosummer · 01/05/2021 21:46

Honour, faith and Florence are lovely. I would raid an eyebrow to both Thanksgiving and Blessing to be honest. Best wishes for the safe arrival of your baby girl.

RainbowMum11 · 01/05/2021 21:53

Patience
Constance
Hope

EmmaGrundyForPM · 01/05/2021 21:54

I really think Thanksgiving is too 'out there'

Better names are

Faith
Verity
Patience
Grace
Hope
Serenity

tara66 · 01/05/2021 21:57

Not read all the thread but do you know ''Thanks Giving'' or ''Thanksgiving'' is a public holiday in USA for the landing of the Pilgrim Fathers who set sail in the Mayflower and the date is when they landed in Massachusetts?
Were you writing or talking ever to strangers about 'Thanksgiving'' referring to your child, there will be massive UNNECESSARY confusion here.
Also imagine a scene where this child is missing are you going to call out ''Thanksgiving! Thanksgiving !'' loudly in a crowded shop or airport for example? Is it at all practical?
How do you think other, not so kind people, will treat her regarding her name all through her life?

Edenember · 01/05/2021 22:56

I’m so sorry for your loss.

Faith would seem the most obvious choice, it’s a beautiful name that would sit well alongside Honour (which I adore, btw).
What about Clemence? (Mercy).
Or similar to other posters, I realise you wanted a virtue name but it may be worth considering some options which have your desired meaning. Beatrice / Beatrix as someone else suggested would be perfect as it means both ‘she who brings happiness’ and ‘blessed.’ Theodora and indeed many Dora names mean gift from God.

Congratulations on your daughter OP X

Adrianneanneanne · 01/05/2021 23:02

Oh god no - Comfort = comfort girls - don’t do that

I don't get that reference but Comfort odds a fairly ordinary name in west Africa

Adrianneanneanne · 01/05/2021 23:03

Also, I like Temperance and Faith as names, very nice and not too out there.

Nannyamc · 01/05/2021 23:31

Verity meaning truth a beautiful name for a precious girl and an angel

Peeteea · 01/05/2021 23:37

Have you considered Rejoice, if you can’t use Joy? I met someone with this name and thought it was really nice!

Blessing has also been mentioned already which I also think would suit. I actually think Thanksgiving is lovely but may be considered a bit too much by some and I can imagine it would be painful to have people mock it as they have been doing above, especially given your reasons.

I’m sorry for your loss OP, that sounds incredibly tough to cope with for you and your family and I’m sorry people have been so insensitive here. I hope you are ok and able to enjoy the last few days of pregnancy. Best wishes to you!

ZoyaTheDestroyer · 01/05/2021 23:52

I love Cherish.

I really like the suggestions of Dorothea / Dorothy / Theodora, all meaning ‘God’s gift’.
