First impressions and floral/garden suggestions

First impressions for baby girl due summer please: Rae

DP likes this name as well but has said he'd prefer to continue the floral/nature name tradition in his family. We can't have Olivia, Jasmine, Ivy, Rose as all taken and Robin was a hard no from him.

My preference is for quite strong sounding female names so that rules out Lily - any ideas for names that I've missed?

I'm open to names from other cultures and languages as well, Hebrew, Sanskrit, Swahili etc so long as the meaning is appropriate and works with our long surname.

All ideas welcome!

Rae Marigold sounds brilliant.

Other flower/ nature names:
Iris, Violet, Willow, Hazel, Daisy

TakeMeToYourLiar · 26/04/2021 06:58

Marguerite
Azalea
Cassia
Zinnia
Aster
Dahlia
Sage

BlueChampagne · 26/04/2021 13:53

How about other Rose names like Rosamund, Rosalind etc?

Holly
Topaz/Pearl/Beryl/Ruby
Fern
Wren
Nigella ...

KirstenBlest · 26/04/2021 13:58

Rae is a surname. I don't like it as a first or name

There are plenty of plant/flower names you could use: Violet, Viola, Tansy, Hazel, Heather, Fern, Zinnia, ...

JemimaJoy · 26/04/2021 14:02

I don't like Rae. I think it will date badly.

Love Tansy, Iris, Briar, Juniper, Fern, Hazel.

Go for nature!

Honeywort · 26/04/2021 14:02

Jonquil
Rosemary
Hebe
Are all “strong” sounding floral names. Tbh I’d have loved to use Flora as the goddess of spring but can’t disassociate it from the margarine..

JemimaJoy · 26/04/2021 14:02

Oohh Cassia is gorgeous 🥰

Orangesarenottheonlyfruit · 26/04/2021 14:04

Clementine, Iris, Hebe, Tulip, Primrose, Daphne, Hyacinth, Nigella, poppy, Violet, Marguerite (French for Daisy also a Queen!), Daisy, Blossom, Lettice, Fern, Rowan, Hazel, Ash, Flora, Bluebell, Zinnia, Dahlia....

Orangesarenottheonlyfruit · 26/04/2021 14:07

Persephone (goddess of the spring)?

Biscuitsneeded · 26/04/2021 14:15

Iris - great name, it's a flower but not a fussy or twee name, it's short and you don't meet many of them.

annaboo2 · 26/04/2021 16:25

Rae is a filler middle name to me. I also find it quite masculine and suspect it could be confused with Ray which is the boys spelling. Perhaps Reagan?

DramaAlpaca · 27/04/2021 01:21

I think Lily is fine actually, it's soft but strong. It's a magnificent flower and I don't see the name as either cute or twee when associated with the flower.

I'm sorry but I really dislike Rae.

VenusClapTrap · 27/04/2021 17:58

I dislike Rae.

Nerine
Anemone
Lark
Linnet

waltzingparrot · 27/04/2021 18:05

Daisy Rae

Piptastic · 27/04/2021 18:24

Juniper

daisypond · 27/04/2021 18:30

Sorry, I don’t think Rae is a strong name. It’s a weak filler name to me. How about Rowan?

LolaNova · 27/04/2021 18:38

Love some of the names already mentioned.

I also like:
Sorrel
Calla
Aster
Zinnia
Dahlia
Eartha
Gaia

cerealgamechanger · 27/04/2021 19:14

hasani.net.phtemp.com/flower.html

All the flower names you could ever think of (English and other cultures).

I like Souri/Suri meaning 'red rose' in Persian (if it's good enough for Tom Cruise's daughter...)

miltonj · 27/04/2021 19:21

Cassia and Tansy are both perfect

CrackersDontMatter · 27/04/2021 19:26

I love Eirlys. Welsh for snowdrop I believe.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 28/04/2021 00:10

If you like Rae, why not classic May? It's a flower name as well as a month and has a simple strength to it imo, as it's derived from the name of a Roman Goddess as well as being a nn for Mary and Margaret.

If not, I second pp suggestions of Cassia, Gaia, Iris and Viola. Or perhaps Jessamine (Jess), Briony or Ianthe?

OpusAnglicanum · 28/04/2021 22:13

Rae is not good for me as it’s the name of someone I was scared of as a child. Plus, it’s too close to Mae, which is a bit boring.

Loads of names from PPs, plus Clover, Tansy, Veronica, Erica, Rosemary, Petunia, Hyacinth?

RosesAndHellebores · 28/04/2021 22:20

Daphne
Hebe

Jellybean81 · 28/04/2021 22:20

I've been away for a a few days as I've been poorly. Really appreciate all the name suggestions, got some contenders for the list!
Bit sad to see that Rae isn't landing well as I think I've fallen for it as a name...

OP posts:
RosesAndHellebores · 28/04/2021 22:25

Zinnia
Poppy
Fleur
Myrtle

I'm sorry op but I don't like Rae.
