First impressions and floral/garden suggestions

First impressions for baby girl due summer please: Rae

DP likes this name as well but has said he'd prefer to continue the floral/nature name tradition in his family. We can't have Olivia, Jasmine, Ivy, Rose as all taken and Robin was a hard no from him.

My preference is for quite strong sounding female names so that rules out Lily - any ideas for names that I've missed?

I'm open to names from other cultures and languages as well, Hebrew, Sanskrit, Swahili etc so long as the meaning is appropriate and works with our long surname.

All ideas welcome!

These sound strong but feminine to me. Not keen on Rae.

Don’t like Rae.

Iris, Hebe, Lily, Dahlia and Margot are great names.

Although I always quite fancied having an Amaryllis. Not brave enough though.

First impressions on Isla Avery Grace Asha

And is there anyone out there who likes Rae?

Isla and Grace are nice but popular. Asha is OK. Avery is a bird prison. Have you considered Everley, Aubrey and Audrey?

Rae is OK but I prefer Raine, Raven and Rachel, which can be shortened to Rae.

My daughters are Flora and Primrose xx

Isla - I'd assume you had Scottish antecedents
Avery - no
Grace - the best but v overused
Asha - hmm

VenusClapTrap · 29/04/2021 08:41

I like Isla the best from your new list. There are a lot around though, if that bothers you.

Jellybean81 · 29/04/2021 08:51

This is so hard! I'm getting myself a bit worked up at not being able to settle on 'the one'. It was so easy naming our DS.

Thanks for all the suggestions I might leave it for awhile and see if inspiration strikes.

Rae is still my front runner - Raven I associate too much with Raven Simone and Rachel has been used in the family already.

I love Rae! It is my daughter's middle name so I'm biased. Her first name is quite girly and our middle name is long so only one syllable names worked for us. It is a marmite name for some people but I also think once it's your daughters name people just accept it. If you love it, go for it. It makes me think of rays of light. Please don't call her Avery though, that's a birdcage.

Estasala · 01/05/2021 13:30

I don't like Rae either, sorry.

Isla, Grace and Asha are all pretty names.

Rae is awful, Isla and Grace are lovely.

Anibas · 02/05/2021 18:51

Dahlia and Azalea were on my long list so I like those!
I do like Rae too though, maybe for a middle name?

theseriousmoonlight · 02/05/2021 18:55

I like Rae. Especially as a first name. I think it's popular as a second / double barrelled first name but I don't know any with just Rae.

I had Aster and Juniper on my list for dd2. Also love Iris and Ivy.

TatianaBis · 02/05/2021 18:59

Really dislike Rae.

Ugly, downmarket and overused.

HappyHa · 04/05/2021 12:13

I love the idea of sunrays but it also reminds me of ray bans (the glasses however it's spelt)

•River would be nice for a girl
•Rhiannon (plus there's the Fleetwood Mac association)
•Ruby
•Amber
•Jade
•Luna
•Lumi
•Polly
•Marina

Edenember · 04/05/2021 12:37

Isla is gorgeous, but obviously very popular. It’s still on my list despite popularity because I love it.
Grace close second, overused as a middle but not so much as a first (although Isla Grace is still lovely).
Not keen on Avery or Asha, similar sounding names I have on my own longlist are Aveline and Osha, which means shining.
Another one who doesn’t like Rae I’m afraid. But it’s not my baby.

Jellybean81 · 04/05/2021 14:15

ConfusedOk Rae is off the list

Lol at Avery is a bird prison, my DH feels the same so that's off the list too.

Isla said out loud with our surname doesn't work at all.

So being brave I'll put another one out there...

Noa (distinct from boy Noah and means My love)

OP posts:
VenusClapTrap · 04/05/2021 14:41

I like Noa.
