Just that really. What thoughts/opinions does this name bring up for you?

I like it.

OpusAnglicanum · 20/04/2021 20:49

I was always going to call my daughter Athena, if I had one. Right from when I was about 10. I was a bit of a geek as a child and was really into Greek mythology.

But then it turned out that my husband’s surname sounded silly with Athena (it sort of rhymes), so I had to give it up, reluctantly, and call our daughter something else.

MrsMoastyToasty · 20/04/2021 20:49

I know an Athena. She has mixed British and East European heritage.

Cornishmumofone · 20/04/2021 20:50

Athena is a weight category in triathlons (it's for women who weigh over 160lbs). The men's equivalent is Clydesdale.

Saltyslug · 20/04/2021 20:50

Prefer Thea

SmiledWithTheRisingSun · 20/04/2021 20:55

I would think of the poster shop. And the man with the baby. But that's because I'm in my 40's.

It's a great name.
But I prefer Xanthe.

Alonelonelylonersbadidea · 20/04/2021 21:00

I knew someone called Athena and as a Greek it was pronounced A-the- NA. Which is lovely. Athena is the city of Athens apparently and not so cool.

In any case it is a lovely name, but yes, a lot to live up to.

CeibaTree · 20/04/2021 21:07

Makes me think of Athena from BSG - a very positive connection, I love the name! :)

LozMarieFielder · 20/04/2021 21:21

Such a gorgeous name! I think of Greek Mythology (which is a good thing as Athena is the goddess of wisdom).

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 20/04/2021 21:23

Gorgeous name, but I'd probably assume she had some sort of Greek heritage or links (or I guess possibly just parents who adore mythology/studied Classics). Maybe it just needs to be used more to overcome this though - like Helen, Lara, Cora, Iris etc?

partyatthepalace · 20/04/2021 21:31

Nice name. I wouldn’t think anything particularly - maybe that her parents liked Greece or mythology?!

Do not worry about the poster brand - long gone

Violetlavenders · 21/04/2021 14:40

I'd have to meet her before I could tell you what I think of her Smile

Honestly, do people really judge others on the basis of a name?!

Baffledma · 23/04/2021 20:44

Love Athena Or Artemis

TheMotherlode · 23/04/2021 22:03

It makes me think of someone quite artsy and hippyish. Probably vegan and talks about it a lot.

diddlediddle · 02/05/2021 16:27

One of my favourite names. Definitely don't need to worry about a poster shop from the 90s 😂

Anibas · 02/05/2021 18:34

I like it! It was on our list, but has just been cut from our shortlist as we couldn't think of nicknames we liked for it!

katewitch · 03/05/2021 13:52

I love names like this, but I always wonder what happens when the child is extremely introverted/mousey/shy etc... they seem like they risk being a burden to me!

I'd love to call a daughter Artemis for example, but it just feels like a lot of pressure. Same goes for boys called things like Thor, Zeus, or Odin!

PferdeMerde · 03/05/2021 13:57

Wouldn’t assume anything about the child. Would assume parents are pretentious but there’s nothing wrong with that really.

Lulu1919 · 03/05/2021 14:00

It's pretty but yes I think of the poster....but wouldn't stop me using it !!

BlankieBops · 05/05/2021 14:39

Athena the shop was awesome and so is it for a name, I’m now seriously considering it for my next baby!

whatswithtodaytoday · 05/05/2021 14:47

It's a poster shop, I'm afraid I can't think of anything else :D But I'm 39... if you're younger and didn't know the shop it's a very pretty name.

Does anyone else now really fancy a flick through the racks at Athena?

Enko · 06/05/2021 19:17

I think of the Danish Princess but not many will :)
