Just that really. What thoughts/opinions does this name bring up for you?

The 80s poster shop again. I don’t love it.

MrsElijahMikaelson1 · 20/04/2021 20:00

80’s poster shop containing shirtless man with baby and woman playing tennis with her arse out.

womanity · 20/04/2021 20:01

The man on the car bonnet. 😳

BiBabbles · 20/04/2021 20:03

I wouldn't think or assume much of the girl, other than if she's older then she's possibly gotten tired of mythology-related comments by then as I did, so would avoid not make any mention of it (having been raised with a different name strongly associated with mythology, adults thinking I must want to hear them talk about it became really annoying, more so when they got the myths I had heard dozens of times really wrong).

Redcart21 · 20/04/2021 20:04

Ok far more positive comments than I thought I’d get! We love it and it’s our top choice right now but wasn’t sure how it would feel to others

Classy name. I like it.

I also like Olympia, if you’re going for the Greek vibe.

Ninkanink

Yes!!! Presence that's a great way to describe an Athena.

PerspicaciousGreen · 20/04/2021 20:09

Either: very enthusiastically Greek family, or "Blimey, she's got a lot to live up to!" It is a lovely name, but a bit intimidating if she's actually not very strong, beautiful, clever or goddess-like!

Chilver · 20/04/2021 20:11

Beautiful name.

Strong, warrior.

teenagetantrums · 20/04/2021 20:13

Definitely the poster shop...but I'm in my 50s might be an age thing..

PinkBuffalo · 20/04/2021 20:16

@Turtles4543

Athena is an IT system at work for me
Same! Nothing but swearing following the name Athena for us at work But anyone not working where I do should be fine 🙂
thelegohooverer · 20/04/2021 20:16

I’d worry that it’s a hard name to carry if she’s not beautiful and brilliant. It’s a fabulous name though.

feellikeanalien · 20/04/2021 20:18

My cat is called Athena! Grin

Twinkie01 · 20/04/2021 20:18

Beautiful but I'd be worried children would say it with an F not a TH.

May2021Mummy · 20/04/2021 20:20

Strong

Crustybreadandbutter · 20/04/2021 20:20

Greece
Bit posh

TheYearOfSmallThings · 20/04/2021 20:21

It's a lovey name, but a lot to live up to.

If you and your husband are beautiful, gifted, artistic and rich, then your DD stands a good chance of living up to the name. Personally, if my parents had gone for Athena, I would have faced a lifetime of watching people register the incongruity!

AOwlAOwlAOwl · 20/04/2021 20:22

I used to know an Athene - think it's a lovely name. Prefer it to Athena tbh.

cariadlet · 20/04/2021 20:22

When I hear Athena, I automatically think Greek mythology. The poster and postcard shop association would probably come next.

But if I actually met a girl called Athena, would assume that her parents were posh, pretentious or both (sorry).

gavisconismyfriend · 20/04/2021 20:36

Thanks @womanity - that brought back memories!

FindMeInTheSunshine · 20/04/2021 20:39

Makes me think of Angela Basset's Athena in 9-1-1. A good, strong character!

Londoncatshed · 20/04/2021 20:42

Poster shop. I would presume young parents that don’t remember the reference.

wingsnthat · 20/04/2021 20:43

One of my friends has this name! She’s early 20s, tall, slim, pretty, dark blonde wavy hair with blue eyes. Very confident but kind too. Her name really suits her, she looks like a literal goddess

Hoppinggreen · 20/04/2021 20:44

Strong and clever
