Thoughts on the girls name Thomasin?

It's a classic Aramaic name, but hasn't been used regularly since the the early 1800's. There were both positive and negative reactions on another thread where it was mentioned in passing, so thought it deserved it's own to determine where everybody stands on it.

OP posts:

I wanted Thomasina for my youngest DD. Exh was having none of it. I love the name.

Synchrony · 13/04/2021 17:56

It's not for me. I find it awkward to say and it makes me think of tomatoes.

User5747384 · 13/04/2021 17:57

I don't like it sorry.

BuggeringBugger · 13/04/2021 17:58

It reminds me of 'michaelina' from Jane the virgin. Just sounds a bit made up to me 😅

NameChangedForThisFeb21 · 13/04/2021 18:00

I don’t like it - Thomas in.

I like Thomasina and Tamsin. I also love the biblical name Tamar (Tay-mar) and know a very beautiful and classy one. And love Tanith. But Thomasin is too masculine looking and sounding for my liking, sorry.

TOOTYFRUITTS · 13/04/2021 18:01

I am not particular into cutesy or twee names like Luna, Lucy, Ellie, Daisy, Belle etc but I prefer those to Thomasin. Would you like to be called Thomasin?

SeaTurtles92 · 13/04/2021 18:02

I've never heard of it when I said it out loud sounded like an AB.

Just my opinion though.

foodiefil · 13/04/2021 18:05

If you live in a normal town and will send said child to a normal school then no. Kids won't get it. They'll hate it for years. Unless you're going for it just on the birth certificate snd calling them something else.

GroggyLegs · 13/04/2021 18:07

It reminds me too much of Alicina which I think is the sheep in Katy Morag.

😂 This really tickled me. It's been a long day...

sausagepastapot · 13/04/2021 18:08

I don't like it, and I think your kid will absolutely hate it, and probably be bullied for it.

Thedogscollar · 13/04/2021 18:47

Out of all the beautiful names out there this is definitely not one of them. Sorry OP but you did ask.

RiaOverTheRainbow · 13/04/2021 18:52

It's nice, but I hadn't heard of it before, and if I'm not alone in that then she might get mistaken for Tamsin or Thomasina a lot.

drpet49 · 13/04/2021 18:55

I don’t like it. I also thought it was a boys name.

bluebluezoo · 13/04/2021 18:57

The Three lives of Thomasina. Old film with those two kids from Mary Poppins. Titular character being a resurrected cat....

Profiterolegirl · 13/04/2021 18:57

I really don't like it.

MrsCalypsoGrant · 13/04/2021 18:58

I love it, though I am biased as we have one in the distant family, & my son is also a Thomas

dexterslockedintheshedagain · 13/04/2021 19:00

It's lovely.

Mumoftwoinprimary · 13/04/2021 19:01

I know a Tomasin. She is 11. I was a bit “what!!!” when I first heard it but now I’m used to it I like it. She is often called Tommie.

It isn’t a “bullied” name - just a bit unusual.

Marmaladeagain · 13/04/2021 19:03

Thomasina is pretty, but invariably does get shortened to Ina, IME.

Some seem bit embarrassed about the masculine look of the "Th" in English and I think it does work better in Latin languages with the "To"

Phoebesgift · 13/04/2021 19:04

Nope. Sorry.

miltonj · 13/04/2021 19:08

I really don't like it.

dotdotdotdash · 13/04/2021 19:14

What's wrong with Tamsin?

smallandimperfectlyformed · 13/04/2021 19:17

I know one Thomasin, it's a Nigerian boy. Actually I quite like it for a girl too

Amelia666 · 13/04/2021 19:18

Tomasina just reminds me of the rhyme “tomasina tittle mouse, lives in a little house, she eats fishes from other people’s dishes”

I prefer Thomasin - unusual yet elegant.

HotTomatoes · 13/04/2021 19:24

Really don’t like it.
