Thoughts on the girls name Thomasin?

It's a classic Aramaic name, but hasn't been used regularly since the the early 1800's. There were both positive and negative reactions on another thread where it was mentioned in passing, so thought it deserved it's own to determine where everybody stands on it.

I prefer Tamsin or Tamsyn.

PolarnOPirate · 13/04/2021 19:29

I quite like it, kinda spunky, but is it an ‘in’ ending or ‘een’ ending? I prefer een otherwise it sounds like ‘(I left) Thomas in (the supermarket)’ etc.

Went to school with a Thomasina who had a sister called Timothea amongst many others!

PollyThePony · 13/04/2021 19:32

I like it. I don't like Thomasina, but think Thomasin is lovely

DotDotDotDotDot · 13/04/2021 19:59

It is interesting and a bit different nowadays. Overall though it is way too masculine sounding for my taste.

DramaAlpaca · 13/04/2021 20:03

I much prefer Tamsin, Tamzin or Tamasin.

Marmaladeagain · 13/04/2021 20:57

I'm always rather put in mind of Thumbelina when I hear the name Thomasina, sweet but not really very grown up sounding once a grown up..

Tillygetsit · 13/04/2021 22:56

Not keen sorry. Prefer Tamsin or even better Tasmin. I'd love a baby Taz!

skeemee · 13/04/2021 23:21

Nooo.... I have aunts Thomasina, williamina and Jamesina. So basically men’s names with Ina tagged on. Don’t do it!

GroggyLegs · 13/04/2021 23:36

@skeemee - that's amazing, they sound like characters in a children's book.

Please tell me they all lived together in a giant peach or a cottage made of biscuits?!

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 13/04/2021 23:57

Probably just me, but Thomasina instantly makes me think of La Tomatina - the festival in Spain where everybody chucks tomatoes at each other in the streets!

Do they go by the full names? They can't exactly all use Ina for short.
Tambourina · 14/04/2021 08:09

Thomasin is lovely

I also love Thomasina

misskatamari · 14/04/2021 08:11

I really like it. Much prefer it to Thomasina, which just feels really long to me

skeemee · 14/04/2021 11:06

@GroggyLegs. Unfortunately not! They lived in a room and kitchen tenement flat with mum, dad and four other siblings, with a toilet on the outside landing that you shared with your neighbours.

@Lockdownbear. Nina, Wilma and Ina. Guess what the boys names were?

lonel · 14/04/2021 11:11

I really like it. I also love Thomas Hardy.

paralysedbyinertia · 14/04/2021 11:13

I think it's dreadful, sorry.

Are they Scottish? I like Jamesina too.

I don't mind feminised male names as gendered languages have male and female versions of the same name. And they are historic.

Prefer that to using a male name for a female.

Iwantcauliflowercheese · 14/04/2021 11:29

I like it and with an a on the end. Such a lovely change from all the Ellas, Evies, Avas and any thing hyphenated. My son would have had this name, so he got the boy's version!

ProbablyGryffindor · 14/04/2021 11:36

Sounds lovely - I actually prefer it without the ‘a’ ending.

Violetlavenders · 14/04/2021 12:04

I prefer Thomasina, but like Thomasin too.

Cindie943811A · 14/04/2021 15:11

I like both Tomasin and Thomasina. The related Tamzin is nice, too but not the nn Tammy.

Edenember · 14/04/2021 17:26

Love it, it’s on my list.

Iveputmyselfonthenaughtystep · 14/04/2021 17:28

I thought of Hardy, too. I like it but it's hard to picture on a baby. I can only imagine an older girl with this name. F

Notaroadrunner · 14/04/2021 17:29

Don't like it. Have heard the name Thomasina and don't like that either. I had assumed a family member was called Thomas and they just added 'ina' to make up a girls name. Didn't realise it was actually a girls name.

IHaveBrilloHair · 14/04/2021 22:19

I said on your other thread that I love it.
