Hi all,
I previously asked for help choosing baby two name but found out we’re now having a boy!

We already have a Hazel Elizabeth.

Our surname is short, two syllables and ends with an ‘oh’ sound.

We love the above names - Remus and Atlas. I’m more keen on Remus whereas my husband adores Atlas and is very much set on this!

We’ve entertained the middle name James for both, but wondering if anyone has suggestions for names in a similar vein to Remus and Atlas.

Daisy No, not American.

Uncle Remus is an American classic, famous worldwide. As well known as the Enid Blyton series - bigger than Harry Potter. Uncle Remus stories are not 'promoted' now because - as several people have said - they are considered racist. Just a quick Google explains: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uncle_Remus

@florascotia2
I think you’re tagging the wrong poster. I agree with you.

florascotia2 · 03/04/2021 12:20

daisypond TERRIBLY sorry. Please forgive me!

Randus - son of Spartacus. Might be shortened to Randy.

Not a good name in the UK!

TheSkipper · 03/04/2021 13:43

How about Amos? Amos James has a nice ring to it. It goes well with Hazel too.

LadyWithLapdog · 03/04/2021 13:44

Iklboo - I know 😄 It’s quite ok in the States.

How about some classic names- Hazel was quite popular in the 60's so:
Stephen
Richard
Ian
Stuart
Mark or Marcus
Mathew
John
Andrew
Julian
Philip
Peter
Simon

All go well with James imo.

It does read like the register of my class at infant school- 😂 but I have left out
Craig, Brian, Gary, Kevin and Terry, not sure if they are due a revival just yet!

Not keen on either.

I prefer:

Orion
Ludo
Amos
Ptolemy
Roman
Orlando
Bartholomew
Cyrus
Jonah

Atticus
Lysander

ArtemisiaGentle · 03/04/2021 18:24

Didn't Atlas have an unfortunate story?

Don't like Remus.

I like pp suggestions of Titus, Leander & Atticus.

Ducksarenotmyfriends · 03/04/2021 18:45

Atlas just makes me think of Atlas Shrugged, so it's a big no for me. Remus is much better.

I'm guessing that is for me though I thought it was obvious from my reply that I know what it is, but I just said I wasn't aware of it until I considered the name in the past.

I also thought since I was talking about the racism that it was obvious why it isn't promoted and didn't need to state directly. I was just meaning that because it's not something being pushed or promoted a lot of people, especially young people won't know about it. Though maybe I'm wrong as a few British people here have mentioned it but I'm not sure how much Mumsnet represents the general public.

mamablondie33 · 05/04/2021 12:41

Hazel is gorgeous.

What about Jasper?

florascotia2 · 05/04/2021 14:30

MimiDaisy Very sorry if I misunderstood. But I thought the info might just perhaps be of interest to posters who hand not come across Uncle REmus.

BuffaloCauliflower · 05/04/2021 14:33

We liked Atlas but felt it was a just ‘a lot’ of name to carry. How about Atticus?

Jumpalicious · 05/04/2021 14:36

Not so keen on either. Hazel (brown) and ...Rufus (red-head)?

ColonelPine · 05/04/2021 20:49

Don’t like either Remus or Atlas. Marcus or Maximus better IMO. Three syllable names sound better with a one syllable middle name generally.

MrsTerryPratchett · 05/04/2021 20:55

Murdered by his brother or carries the heavens on his back.

Why not Sisyphus or Hades? Prometheus?
