I quite like Fleur however I worry it may be a bit frilly. Also had Eden on the list.... any other similar suggestions that are not too out there but aren't too common either, please!

I love both of those actually

daffodilsandprimroses · 31/03/2021 09:12

I prefer Fleur to Eden but I do think English pronunciation means it isn’t as pretty as it should be! I prefer Flora.

scarfaceace · 31/03/2021 09:14

Freya?

Lyricallie · 31/03/2021 09:16

Oh Fleur and Eden are lovely. I only ever knew a male Eden before but I'm pretty sure it's unisex. I think I prefer Eden, feels cleaner to say.

emmathedilemma · 31/03/2021 09:18

I prefer Flora too, I think in certain accents that extend the "eur" sound Fleur could sound quite ugly!

Luckingfovely · 31/03/2021 09:23

I like Fleur on paper, but understand the point about it actually sounding less pleasant when spoken. The more I think about it, the more I just hear Eurgh.

Eden is lovely, so is Flora.

Iveforgotten · 31/03/2021 09:25

I like Fleur but it can sound a bit ‘eeeeuur’
Not sure about Eden.
How about Erin or Florence ?

IIN16 · 31/03/2021 09:38

I'm not a fan of Flora, but I like Florence although I worry it may be too common!

There were quite a few little florences around a few years ago but I think it’s waned again now.
In the real world you’re unlikely to have 2 in the same class.
I rejected my favourite name on the basis of its ‘popularity’ but have yet to come across one my daughter’s age.

DotDotDotDotDot · 31/03/2021 10:01

I prefer Eden, agree it’s a unisex name but definitely seems more feminine to me. Some lovely suggestions above, I might add Juno, Cerys, Iris, Rose, Iona and Nina.

TatianaBis · 31/03/2021 10:58

Much prefer Fleur to Eden which is 100% Essex. But probably prefer Flora to Fleur. Or an actual flower name: Violet, Iris, Rose, Jasmine.

Ploughingthrough · 31/03/2021 11:48

Flora?

Violetlavenders · 31/03/2021 11:49

Fleur sounds beautiful in a French accent.

But many English speakers ruin it by mispronouncing it. Flora is safer for non French speakers!

I think Eden is beautiful and simple, could suit any type of person and will age well. I really dislike Fleur. I just think it has a really ugly sound.

Kanaloa · 31/03/2021 12:05

It also reminds me of Harry Potter, and they call the Fleur in that ‘phlegm.’

Thedogscollar · 31/03/2021 12:24

Fleur is such a lovely name.
Eden became popular after the perfume came out. I remember every other baby girl was Eden.
I'd 100% go for Fleur, it's beautiful.

BungleandGeorge · 31/03/2021 13:08

I think fleur is lovely (might not go with some surnames though). Prefer it to Florence and Eden

AliceMcK · 31/03/2021 13:11

Love the name, I’ve worked with a few Fleurs and they have always been lovely ladies. I think it’s a name that ages well. I also know a little Florence, again I think it’s a lovely name.

IllNeverLetGoJack · 31/03/2021 14:27

Love the suggestions of Faye and Fern!

I have never heard Fleur pronounced nicely in any British accent, sorry. I'm a French speaker who speaks English with a bit of a mixed accent, (mainly NI and some other accents). It sound awful in my NI accent! Fleugh is awful (English / Welsh), and Flurr is awful (NI), imo.

KirstenBlest · 31/03/2021 14:27

I like Fleur, even though it is just the French word for a flower, but Eden is a bit of a stripper name.

Similar to Fleur - Fflur (only use it if you're Welsh), Ffion (Welsh for foxglove), Flora, Flower, Blossom etc

I went to school with a Fleur in the 1970s. It's a lovely name (she was lovely too!)
