I quite like Fleur however I worry it may be a bit frilly. Also had Eden on the list.... any other similar suggestions that are not too out there but aren't too common either, please!

Fleur is a great name OP - much punchier than Flora and Florence IMO.

Think it's almost the exact opposite of frilly !

jessstan2 · 31/03/2021 15:37

@daffodilsandprimroses

I prefer Fleur to Eden but I do think English pronunciation means it isn’t as pretty as it should be! I prefer Flora.
Me too. Flora is lovely.

Names that have a similar style to Fleur imo:

Scilla
Avril
Hebe
Bluebell
Camille

Might not feel like it’s the same type of name but I love Devon for a girl. I know one and it’s lovely! Like Fleur too

Ellmau · 31/03/2021 19:35

Fleur's nice, although I prefer Flora.

Not keen on Eden.

I really like Fleur

Pippinlily · 31/03/2021 20:06

I really like both.

Similar, I would suggest Elodie?

VenusClapTrap · 31/03/2021 20:41

I love Fleur. It’s very classy.

I went to school with a Flair, which is a bit of an odd name and people always thought she meant Fleur.

Both lovely names. I think Eden if I had to choose. It's a great name.

VenusClapTrap · 31/03/2021 20:52

rightfully bullied, cootyliver?

DramaAlpaca · 31/03/2021 20:55

Fleur is a good strong name. It most definitely isn't frilly! It can sound awful in some accents though, so I'd be wary of that. It sounds lovely in an Irish or Scottish accent.

I'm not so keen on Eden.

I prefer the arabic version of flower - zahra

IIN16 · 01/04/2021 20:35

Thank you everyone! I'm almost surprised at how positive most comments are! I do worry about different accents and pronunciations.

Sorry I think Fleur is an ugly name..that eur look and sound. Freya is pretty though.

IIN16 · 01/04/2021 21:01

I also like Valencia however I'm not keen on Val as a n.n.

IIN16 · 01/04/2021 21:02

I know what you mean I think its a nice name, but yes the sound I get that.

LookAChicken · 01/04/2021 21:55

Valencia could be Lena or even Lennie!

Ikeameatballs · 01/04/2021 21:56

I really don’t like it. Sounds too much like bleurgh.

GertrudeTheGreat · 02/04/2021 08:44

If you like Valencia, how about Valentina?

daisypond · 02/04/2021 09:35

I like Fleur but I think Flora is better in English. Fleur is not at all frilly.

RedPandaMama · 02/04/2021 09:38

All lovely names... Depends where you are in the UK as Fleur where I am (North West) I fear would be pronounced horribly.

I have a Florence and did worry as she was born in 2017 and it was the 20th most popular name. Am still yet to meet another one! I think it may be more popular down south but where we are everyone remarks on how unusual it is.

Arrierttyclock · 02/04/2021 09:40

Fleur is my absolute favourite name I think it's so beautiful. My husband won't use it because of the er bit but I love it!
