Kit Harris or Jenson Kelvin (as first and middle name)

Kit or Jenson?
Kelvin would be after my grandpa but I think Kit Kelvin is too much together! Harris is one of our favourite names but we feel it’s too popular in our area (Scotland) to use as a first name.
Kit is 372 on Scotland’s 2020 list
Jenson is 193

Please help, going round in circles with all these names 🙈 x

Not Kit Harris - just made me think of Kit Harrington from game of thrones immediately.
I do prefer Kit to Jenson though

I have never watched it but did go on to check whether his name was Kit Harrison or Kit Harrington when I first thought of it 🙈

I like both, but slightly prefer Kit Harris. But, the most famous Kit I can think of is Kit Harrington, which is obviously quite similar. Wouldn't be enough to put me off a name if I absolutely loved it, but since you're on the fence and not 100% set on one or the other, I'd go with Jenson, which is lovely.

X posted there!

I love Kit, though my first thought was Kit Harris sounds like he's been named after Kit Harrington.

user1493494961 · 27/03/2021 10:14

Kit Harris, I've never watched Game of Thrones either. Kit Kelvin Harris would work. Jenson is awful.

sarah13xx · 27/03/2021 10:15

Yip I think a lot of people are going to make that connection although I’ve never watched Game of Thrones but other people will have 🙈 maybe I should think of another middle name for Kit. There’s just no other boys names we love that would have any meaning

I really love Jenson but I’ve seen so many negative comments about it on here. I think it’s from people in England where is seems to be much more popular and a few comments have said it’s ‘downmarket’. We don’t know any Jensons or Kits though so either would be unusual here

I think Kit Harris is my favourite. Kit Kelvin would be doable probably given how little anyone ever says the first and middle names together and it’s nice it has a meaning. I think we’d probably just have one middle name, we both just have one

I live in England, but am not English. We live in a naice town near London and there is one Jenson here. Maybe it has 'downmarket' connotations in other areas, but the little Jenson I met had a very nice, hipster type dad with him. Also, Jenson Button is quite 'upmarket' isn't he..?! I thought he was anyway.

Excuse all this talk of markets. I feel as if we are discussing livestock Grin

Haha that’s good! Jenson was my favourite ‘unusual’ name when I first found out I was pregnant and the girls name we have picked for a girl potentially in future is unusual too.

I see it as being ‘upmarket’ but the comments have slightly put doubt in my mind in case it suddenly became really popular here 🙈

I'd choose Harris or Kelvin as a first name out of those four. Kit sounds like a nickname and Jenson is awful, sorry.

IllNeverLetGoJack · 27/03/2021 10:30

Not to confuse you more with more suggestions (sorry), BUT, how about Keir or Kerr?

May2021Mummy · 27/03/2021 10:31

I love the name Jenson but don't think it goes with Kelvin so Kit Harris would be my choice. Congratulations

daisypond · 27/03/2021 10:34

I prefer your middle names, really. Kit is short for Christopher. I’m not sure about Kit as a full name, though it’s nice as a short form. I don’t like Jenson.

blindmansbluff · 27/03/2021 10:35

Kit Harris is my favourite of the two. Don't forget that when you add the surname the flow will change plus you likely won't be using the full name all the time so the Game of Thrones connection won't really matter.

Have considered Kelvin, it seems to be very unusual. I just know so many baby Harris’ just now but absolutely love the name

Yeah the second name starts with M and is quite long so thought Kit being short goes quite nice with it

I should maybe forget the Kelvin thing and get another middle name. It was the only boy name we could think of with any meaning

Like previous posters, I immediately thought Kit Harrington with that combo and I haven't even watched Game of Thrones.

Kit is a nickname for Christopher (in fact the aforementioned Kit Harrington is really a Christopher). I really like it as a nickname but not a full name.

Have you considered using Harris Kelvin or Kelvin Harris (I know you said the popularity of Harris put you off but I think it sounds great).

I quite like Jenson. It's the opposite of posh but that's ok.

I think Kelvin Harris would have the same issue with Calvin Harris 😂 I don’t think we’d use Kelvin as a first name. Really do still love Harris though but there’s just sooo many of them

IllNeverLetGoJack · 27/03/2021 11:21

Oh yes Calvin Harris!!

I think I like Harris the best if that's still a first name option. I also like Kelvin as a first name.

There are loads of lovely Scottish names. It seems a shame to go for Kit imo...it's more English to my ears, and actually, if we're going to get into the whole 'downmarket' thing, which I don't normally pay too much attention to; well, Wayne and Colleen Rooney have a Kit (just Kit), which I would say makes Kit more downmarket than Jenson tbh. No offence Rooneys!

But I may be being swayed by lovely Jenson Button Grin. I love Kit Harrington too, but he is a Christopher, as a pp said.

merryhouse · 27/03/2021 11:29

Why not Kelvin Harris?

It may well be different in Scotland but here Kelvin would be an unusual but instantly familiar name, with very few connotations other than possibly Scottish and possibly scientists Grin

I like Kelvin, and it's got a family connection.

BeesAnkles · 27/03/2021 11:30

I'd go for Kit Harris. Not everyone has watched GoT and how long is that actor really going to be famous for? Your boy's name is for life!

Anyway, I don't know any of my friends' middle names so, tbf, it's not like anyone will hear it. Choose the one you love the most but after the first few weeks it'll never see the light of day again!

Yeah that’s what I think about a middle name, it’s literally never used unless you’re filling in a form! The first name is definitely much more important
