Tristan or Quentin

Wondering which one is a better name for a boy. Surname ends in -Ton or -Ley. Thanks in advance.

Tristan is lovely - has a poetic image imo, thanks to the legend. Less keen on Quentin, it's okay but somehow feels a bit geeky to me.

But I agree with a pp that a first name ending in -tan or -tin might not work that well with a surname ending in -ton.

I have a Tristan, so I'm biased

Both lovely, but neither work with a -ton surname.

I far prefer Tristan. It's a lovely name but I was always put off from using it by its meaning: sad or sadness. I think the Latin is tristis and in Spanish, French etc triste is the word for sad.

Tristan. Is there a name more romantic than this? Just wonderful.

Like both of them very much but Tristan just comes in first. So glad to hear proper, sensible names. I am fed up with Mighty Mountain and the like!

Personally prefer Quentin. There's something about Tristan that I find awkward to say, like it doesn't flow with itself, which means I've never liked it.

But whether I like it or not doesn't matter of course ;-)
