Struggling for a girls name

Due to have Dd3 this year and we are really struggling for girls names. I just can't seem to settle on anything. On our favourites list so far are Molly, Rowan and Luella. Any thoughts on these or other suggestions would be very much appreciated. Smile

I’ve just had DS2 and am now officially giving up on my girls names! Here you go...
Cressida
Romilly
Nina
Tamsin

Congratulations!

I love Rowan. The others, not so much.

Oneandabean · 22/01/2021 10:00

I love molly, it’s easy to spell, everyone knows it and yet not very common. Roman I know is unisex but I’ve only ever known it on boys so to me it’s a boys name. Luella is unusual but pretty

FluffyEggsontoast · 22/01/2021 10:25

I like Molly best
How about Louisa ?
Rowan I find too similar to Roman, which is the fastest rising boy name. I also don't like fairly inevitable shortening to Row.

daisypond · 22/01/2021 10:45

I really, really like Rowan. Molly I’m not keen on, but Polly is better. Luella makes me shudder. Louisa? Eloise? Romilly?

😂 As pretty as I think Luella is it does rhyme with Cruella so I am slightly conscious of that.

Molly is my favourite out of your names. Like a pp, I prefer Polly but Molly is cute.

Rowan sounds rather ambiguous given that it can be a boy’s name - if that’s the vibe you’re going for, great, but personally I would prefer a name where the sex of the baby is obvious.

How about Rowena?

Less keen on Luella - I much prefer Louisa. How about something like Lucinda or Lucy?

My shortlist for a girl included:

Elspeth
Gabriella
Lara
Louisa
Martha
Madeleine
Phoebe
Susannah

stormelf · 22/01/2021 11:16

I love Rowan for a girl. It was on my shortlist for dd but dh didn't like it. We went for another R name instead.

Luckyelephant1 · 22/01/2021 11:28

Rowan is lovely for a boy or girl, gets my vote.
Molly is very blah.
Luella just makes me think Cruella

DriftGames · 22/01/2021 11:30

How about Ella rather than Luella after your Cruella dilemma 😂

Lucy
Mia
Elodie

Quercus3 · 22/01/2021 11:54

Rowan is gorgeous.

I also like Elowen, Polly, Willow, Martha and Lowenna.

ParisJeTAime · 22/01/2021 11:54

Oh yes, you may not want Luella, although my first thought was that blogger Zoella!

Rowan is my favourite from your list.

I like Elspeth and Pheoebe, suggested^^.

Also:

Louisa
Cassia
Thea
Harriet (Harry or Hattie)
Beatrice
Marnie
Maria

I like Molly the most. I've just checked the official statistics and the name Molly has been falling every year in the charts since 2001. So now would be good time to use the name if popularity is a concern. Currently only just inside the top 60 but Molly should be leaving the top 100 in the next few years looking at the graph of official numbers.
Rowan numbers are the opposite and name is on a big upswing so will almost certainly overtake Molly in the next year or so and continue to rise. I know so many Rowan (girl and boy), Roman, Reuben's and so on, it does get a bit repetitive and they blur into one. Definitely very trendy at the moment.
Louella is outside the top 1,000 so is extremely unusual and therefore in a different category to your other more standard names.

Suggestions:
Delilah
Felicity
Verity
Clementine
Greta
Willa
Liberty
Martha
Mabel
Pearl
Cora
Maggie

warriorwomanx · 22/01/2021 12:00

I love Luella it's beautiful.

PlantPotting · 22/01/2021 12:09

I like Molly and Louella is nice too, a bit different!

How about Eloise? Marianne?

My baby girl is called Rowan so I obviously like that name too but if I'd realised how popular it is getting, and that Roman is rising so so fast, I wouldn't have chosen the name. There's 2 Romans and my Rowan at our small nursery and I often find myself saying "Rowan with a W in the middle"......"no no not an M ....or H ....or N". People are already calling her Row and I don't like that but you might.

littlebillie · 22/01/2021 12:19

Laurel

PlantPotting · 22/01/2021 12:24

Laurel is really lovely @littlebillie

Twisique · 22/01/2021 12:55

Emma
Dorothy
Anna
Helena

AndThenTheDayBecomesTheNight · 22/01/2021 13:00

Lilian
Ellen
Mariella
Meriel

youvegottenminuteslynn · 22/01/2021 13:06

Holly or Lola?

Mcboo5 · 22/01/2021 13:16

I am loving these suggestions thank you all so much. Laurel is an interesting one. Definitely some things to consider with the potential rise of popularity of Rowan. Mariella is also lovely.
I find the name picking stage so exciting.

ParisJeTAime · 22/01/2021 13:41

Another one I meant to suggest and forgot was Faye. I love it! Would consider if we ever had another girl.

ParisJeTAime · 22/01/2021 13:42

There is also Lorelei if you like Laurel. Or Laura.

birthingball · 22/01/2021 14:03

My girl choices this time round are

Thea
Mabel
Darcie
Rosalie
Mila
Espen
Caoimhe

ILoveShula · 22/01/2021 14:31

I like Molly best. Rowan is more of a boy's name, even though it is unisex.

Luella is ok but there are so many L names around like Lily, Lila, Lyla, Lola, Luna, Lyra etc
