What's your opinion on the name Nancy? I'd like to know if anyone associates it with anything in particular and just a general consensus!

Dislike it, reminds me of the nasty girl from Little house on the prairie.

I know a Nancee. She’s mid 20’s . A lovey girl. Kind, caring and a bloody good worker. She has a bubbly personality, trustworthy. This is how I see Nancy, Nancee.

Conjures the image of a downtrodden cockney woman who has spent time as a prostitute.

dementedma · 04/01/2021 12:24

Ooh I know a baby Nancy born last week. Lovely

Wasn’t that Nellie?
MaelyssQ · 04/01/2021 12:31

It's a very popular name for little girls in Wales and I love it. My goddaughter is called Nancy and she is adorable.

TheSimpleThings17 · 04/01/2021 12:45

Love it - my Grandmother was a Nancy, I only have a DS and my baby days have long gone so I’m thinking I will have to use it for my next female dog as I love it so much!

BikeRunSki · 04/01/2021 12:47

One of my dsis’s very cool friends, of more than 30 years

hilariousnamehere · 04/01/2021 12:49

Swallows and Amazons - I love it!

bridgetreilly · 04/01/2021 13:19

My grandmother was an Ann known as Nancy. I really like it.

Changethetoner · 04/01/2021 14:51

A "nancy boy" is a weed, drip. (and probably homosexual). it's dated/old slang.

but as a girl name, quite pretty I suppose.

thismeansnothing · 04/01/2021 14:54

I love it.

But then my eldest DD is Nancy. It has got more popular over the years. She's 8 and we've not come across any in her year group when she was a baby or now with school/groups etc.

But there are a couple now that I know under 2

ThundercloudYouBastard · 04/01/2021 15:53

I love it!

froggydoggy · 19/01/2021 14:37

@daisypond Yes! It was Nellie!😂😂 All this time I've been judging the name Nancy without reason!😂

sleepingfox · 19/01/2021 15:06

I love the name Nancy, one of my favourites! It reminds me of Nancy Drew and also Nancy from Stranger Things.

I’m in my mid 20s and though I’ve heard the phrase “nancy boy” it’s mainly been from older generations, so I doubt it’ll be an immediate link for your child growing up. I didn’t even connect the two until I saw a comment on this thread.

Jellington · 19/01/2021 15:11

I think Nancy Drew but that's not a bad thing. No particular negative associations from me. It's a perfectly nice name.

Firebird83 · 19/01/2021 21:53

I’m not keen as a I knew an awful one. It does go well with Freddie though.

RainingBatsAndFrogs · 19/01/2021 22:05

Brilliant name.

Nancy Blackett, Captain of the Amazon.

Goes really well wit Freddie.

Serin · 20/01/2021 00:08

I love it, it's the name that DD (in her 20s now) should have, if only I had managed to convince DH that it didn't remind him of his horrible Aunt.
To be fair DD thinks its bloody awful and she is glad I was forced to compromise.

Nevic84 · 24/03/2021 22:09

My daughter (11) is Nancy
Nancy-mae

She loves it and I love people’s reactions to it :)

ottie27 · 25/03/2021 07:30

I really like it! We will use it as a middle name if we have a DD after my grandmother.

When I was younger I never would have used it because of the “Nancy boy” expression but that seems to have fallen out of usage enough that it doesn’t bother me any more.

Goes really well with Freddie too!

Amdone123 · 25/03/2021 07:47

Love it. I knew someone called Nancy, we were early 20s, and I, too, thought it was just lovely. She had a sister, Esther, which I love , too.
I do think of Oliver, and I do remember it being used as a slur growing up, but I'd forgotten until now.

M0rT · 25/03/2021 07:51

I know a 3 year old Nancy and I love it.
I read all the Nancy Drews as a child so that's my only association.

Vierty · 25/03/2021 07:56

Love it. I think it’s a brilliant name

110APiccadilly · 25/03/2021 07:58

I associate it with Swallows and Amazons. It's not my favourite name but I like it well enough.
