So I'm having a girl, and I like names that are not necessarily around a lot or too popular. I love Pearl violet but people are saying it's 'old' but what do you guys think of this? My 14 year old daughter was reading baby names out to me and Pearl stood out to me when hearing it.

I think Pearl is an 'old' name, but given the revival in names like Ivy and Bertie it is no 'older' than that. The only Pearl I know is a middle name on a 16yo.

SmeleanorSmellstrop · 03/01/2021 11:13

It is beautiful!!!

SalemsPot22 · 03/01/2021 11:13

I know 4 baby pearls!

dementedma · 03/01/2021 11:14

I know someone with a baby Pearl, or as pronounced in her Scottish accent, Peril!

Tavannach · 03/01/2021 11:14

I like Pearl. Not with Violet though, sounds like a nail polish.

pontiouspilates · 03/01/2021 11:24

I think it's a really sweet name.

newmum332 · 03/01/2021 11:28

Pearl is nice but I’d say it’s getting quite popular.
I know of a few

kat0107 · 03/01/2021 11:29

I like it - Pearl in Little Fires Everywhere was great too!

galaxy9 · 03/01/2021 11:41

Pearl is gorgeous!

ClaraBean · 03/01/2021 12:30

My 15 year old is called Pearl so I love it. I don't particularly like it with Violet in the middle. I think it needs something longer. But it is in the middle spot so I don't suppose it matters much!

TheVanguardSix · 03/01/2021 12:32

I love it. My cousin’s little girls are Pearl and Frances.

Happenchance · 03/01/2021 12:36

I like the sound of the name Pearl but I don't like the way that pearls are cultivated, which puts me off the name.

bloodyhairy · 03/01/2021 12:38

Pearl is fine, but it's a bit grannyish when teamed with Violet.

EdgeOfACoin · 03/01/2021 12:39

Pearl is lovely, but I agree with PP that it doesn't work with Violet because it sounds a bit like the name of a nail polish.

Would Viola work in the middle instead?

mistermagpie · 03/01/2021 12:40

I love Pearl. My daughter is Iris and that's a bit old lady according to some people too but I love it!

I don't like Pearl Violet as a combo but people don't use middle names much anyway.

partyatthepalace · 03/01/2021 13:15

Lovely. Due a revival - you can be the first.

I personally wouldn't combine Pearl and Violet as just find flower and jewel names piled on top of each other a bit much.

DueMay2021 · 03/01/2021 13:19

I think Pearl is a lovely name and Violet is my fav. I think it sounds lovely ☺️

whatausername · 03/01/2021 13:30

I like both but not together. However, full names are only used when announcing births, filling out official forms and during weddings and funerals. Imagine hearing/saying/writing/reading the name at those times and see if you like it.

I wouldn't worry about people saying it is "old". It's not got any negative or comical connotations and you like it so go for it.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 03/01/2021 20:02

Pearl is a bit too retro/vintage for my taste personally (similar to Ruby, I think it will date), especially the Pearl Violet combo - it sounds very 1910's/20's to me. What about Coralie - it's a more subtle, uncommon nature/gem name?

Guineapigbridge · 03/01/2021 20:09

Pearl is a lovely name.

Alwayswrongneverright · 04/01/2021 13:38

Like pearl but not violet sorry

WarrickDavisAsPlates · 04/01/2021 13:48

I like both Pearl and Violet but I'm not sure if they work together.

Pearl Violet instantly made me think of those purple sweets even though I know that's not the name of them.

foodtoorder · 04/01/2021 13:52

I am very biased where this name is concerned but have only ever had a lovely response when telling people their name.
I obviously love it!

Livsy · 04/01/2021 13:55

It is a nice name, I like it

Sausagedog1 · 04/01/2021 14:11

I absolutely love it but I think in some Southern accents it sounds like peh-w so wouldn't use it.
