So I'm having a girl, and I like names that are not necessarily around a lot or too popular. I love Pearl violet but people are saying it's 'old' but what do you guys think of this? My 14 year old daughter was reading baby names out to me and Pearl stood out to me when hearing it.

Pearl is beautiful
One of my top favourites for a long time
Never met one and been keeping an eye out. It's a lovely choice

BrokenCircle · 04/01/2021 14:19

Lovely.

AliasGrape · 04/01/2021 14:26

I taught a little Pearl a few years back, only one I've ever come across, I thought it was lovely.

I like Violet too

I'm not sure I like them together though.

My daughter has 3 old lady names, I think they sound lovely together and are quite timeless.

IckleBear · 04/01/2021 17:00

Pearl Sylvie
Pearl Rowena
Pearl Dorothy
Pearl Eliza

I like them both but not together. I think they’re both already having a bit of a revival.

Thehogfatherstolemycurry · 04/01/2021 17:32

Love them both, think personally I'd swap it to Violet Pearl but that's just my preference.

Itsokthanks · 04/01/2021 17:32

I love Pearl. It's quite fashionable at the moment but it's a lovely old name that won't sound common if it continues to grow in popularity.

MrsMoastyToasty · 04/01/2021 17:33

I like them but not together. I think of them as 2 colours- a shade of white and a shade of purple.

Pemba · 04/01/2021 17:41

No, I don't like it. A pearl is a beautiful thing, but the actual sound of the word is not particularly attractive IMO. Pearl also sounds slightly fusty and old fashioned to my ears, obviously others will have a different view.

I do like Ruby, though, that one has lots of ziz and sparkle.

Iamneverfull · 04/01/2021 17:46

Love it! I have a Pearl!

CeibaTree · 04/01/2021 18:01

How about using the Italian version Perla? Pearl is a nice name but as pp said it could be mangled in certain accents!

Firebird83 · 04/01/2021 19:18

Pearl is lovely.

lalalalands · 04/01/2021 19:19

I think it's lovely!

justanothermamma · 04/01/2021 19:23

I have an Ada and Esther here and they have old lady middle names too, all for it them!

2pinkginsplease · 04/01/2021 20:18

Where I’m from in central Scotland the pronunciation of Pearl isn’t great so that put some me off it. We would pronounce it Pe-Rhyl.

daisypond · 04/01/2021 20:30

I don’t like it at all. I feel like I ought to like it, as it’s an old name, but I don’t. It seems a bit seedy to me.
