Everley and...

Name changed for this as obviously outing.

We have just found out that baby 2 is a girl! We already have a 2 year old DD called Everley. She has two middle names and our surname is double barrelled. Would quite like a name that fits well with this but I would prefer to avoid other “ee” names so not eg Everley and Darcey. I quite like names ending with an “uh” eg Anna. However I’m conscious that Everley is fairly unusual and we partly picked it because we didn’t want her to have a really popular name (both me and my DH were known as “Emma S” or “Adam J” etc at school and hated it). Therefore it would be a bit weird to have a very popular name for DD2, feels like we need to have something else unusual to match. There are a few names that I like that fit the brief:

Vita
Winter
Ada
Frieda
Fritha

However my husband doesn’t like any of them. It feels like any slightly unusual name that I suggest he says is ‘too weird’ so maybe him liking Everley was a bit random (it was number 800+ in the baby name list ranked by popularity the year she was born!) and he actually prefers much more traditional names. I think he’d be happy with something more popular like Freya or Ava despite what he’s said before about wanting an unusual name but I wouldn’t really. I want them both to have a slightly unusual name. Any ideas? We’d also give 2 middle names, I don’t mind these being more popular as Everley’s are too.

Ps. I know Everley is a bit of a marmite name on MN, please no negative comments about her name, we have already named her! Thank you.

I do like names beginning with an I but not sure I could have Ingrid as our NDN growing up was called Ingrid; we have known her all my life (still send Xmas cards etc now) so to me Ingrid is a 75 year old woman with 3 dogs Grin

I always loved Imogen but it is obviously much more popular than Everley. I would probably go for Indigo but DH will definitely say it’s too weird and maybe he’d have a point. I’m not keen on India. But maybe I names should be explored further!

I agree with the pp, btw, that he is being really annoying. However, I should confess that, when we were expecting dd, my DH laughed at one of my suggestions and I was so cross. Later I looked back and realised it was quite inappropriate. (The name was ISIS and I was pregnant while that was a famous name for all the wrong reasons Xmas Blush). I honestly didn't realise for ages. Think I had reached the end of my tether with baby names by the time DH laughed at it and I snapped at him, so he didn't have the chance to tell me why he was laughing.

How about Inara? It means ray of light I think.

SirVixofVixHall · 14/12/2020 23:22

I have only heard Everley as a surname, so to me you need to think about names that are more commonly second names, or names that are pretty unisex. Piper, Davida, Peta. Tree names like Acer, Rowan, Ash/Ashley, Briar. Nature names like Willow, Autumn, Brook.

Oooh lots more names very exciting! Thanks all

I like Lara, Lillian, Annabel and Maeve a lot. Matilda was vetoed by DH with DD1 but I love it and also really like Tilda as a nn.

Vivienne is my sister Grin and have a good friend Robyn.

Not overly keen on the American sounding ones and neither is DH (we actually agree there for once!)

@YoniAndGuy I’m pissing myself at “pen-el-ope” Grin

Should have mentioned that our surname starts with an L. Does that rule out Lara and Lillian?

How about Velia? Marianna? Clara?

BabyGirlNumber2 · 14/12/2020 23:27

I think Inara is quite lovely and interesting but would bet my house that DH writes it off as ‘weird’ Angry

@TheQueensGambit ISIS! Lol good point, I think I have only suggested one or two really odd ones though. He normally laughs at ones that are pretty normal but he is completely out of touch with baby name trends (like a lot of men I suppose!), our friends recently had a girl called Ottilie (which I love!) and he was like “what?! Never heard of it.” I think he basically only knows names that famous people have or people our age.

Randomly when we were discussing boys names (before we knew she was a girl) I suggested Atlas, I was half joking as I thought he’d say it was ridiculous but he loved it?! So I really don’t get his rules maybe I should just keep suggesting “weird” names until he likes ones?!
