Everley and...

Name changed for this as obviously outing.

We have just found out that baby 2 is a girl! We already have a 2 year old DD called Everley. She has two middle names and our surname is double barrelled. Would quite like a name that fits well with this but I would prefer to avoid other “ee” names so not eg Everley and Darcey. I quite like names ending with an “uh” eg Anna. However I’m conscious that Everley is fairly unusual and we partly picked it because we didn’t want her to have a really popular name (both me and my DH were known as “Emma S” or “Adam J” etc at school and hated it). Therefore it would be a bit weird to have a very popular name for DD2, feels like we need to have something else unusual to match. There are a few names that I like that fit the brief:

Vita
Winter
Ada
Frieda
Fritha

However my husband doesn’t like any of them. It feels like any slightly unusual name that I suggest he says is ‘too weird’ so maybe him liking Everley was a bit random (it was number 800+ in the baby name list ranked by popularity the year she was born!) and he actually prefers much more traditional names. I think he’d be happy with something more popular like Freya or Ava despite what he’s said before about wanting an unusual name but I wouldn’t really. I want them both to have a slightly unusual name. Any ideas? We’d also give 2 middle names, I don’t mind these being more popular as Everley’s are too.

Ps. I know Everley is a bit of a marmite name on MN, please no negative comments about her name, we have already named her! Thank you.

Ok, Marianne is maybe a good example of the kind of name you want to aim for (even if you don't like that actual name). So - not cutesy, not modern, classic - but underused and a bit off to left field. A name everyone will know, but there probably won't be one in the playground. A grown up, not a little girl's name really. BUT still 'ordinary' enough for your DH to like.

milienhaus · 14/12/2020 23:09

Sylvia
Juniper
Cassia
Claudia

Tinty · 14/12/2020 23:10

Everley and Astrid

YoniAndGuy · 14/12/2020 23:10

I dislike Violet - and it's faddy now - it's the last flower name to get the revivial treatment, but I think it will drop out of fashion again quite quickly, as Vi is such a horrible short form!

YoniAndGuy · 14/12/2020 23:11

Yes Margot has the same feel. Quite popular though.

YoniAndGuy · 14/12/2020 23:11

I mean Margot has the same feel as Everley!

BabyGirlNumber2 · 14/12/2020 23:11

I LOVE Margot but alas already (once again) vetoed by DH, he claimed people wouldn’t know how to say it. He said he would pronounce it ‘Mar-got’ if he only saw it written down. Not my fault he’s lacking in pronunciation skills!

Marianne is interesting. Not thought of that. DH will probably say it reminds him of Normal People. (He seems to say no to any name that has ANY sort of connection or link for him. Which is a lot. He vetoed Matilda for DD1 because he said everyone will just think of the book).

I like Lydia.

@YoniAndGuy I came on to say Marianne too! It was the first name that popped into my head when I read the title.

BabyGirlNumber2 · 14/12/2020 23:12

@YoniAndGuy yes totally this is exactly the kind of “feel” I’m aiming for. You get it! DH does not.

I mean...not to be harsh, but I think you should LTB Xmas Wink, (ok, not really).

Margo is the other spelling? And it is lovely.

How about Ingrid?

lakesideadvent · 14/12/2020 23:13

I wouldn't worry too much about the popularity of a name dsis had an unusual name when born 10 years on it was absolutely everywhere.

DS had a reasonably unusual name at birth that has just got more and more popular.

It isn't possible to future proof the popularity of a name.

WeatherwaxOn · 14/12/2020 23:14

Amaya? Quite like Amara but different enough?

lakesideadvent · 14/12/2020 23:15

Maybe Marnie, it is easy to pronounce.

milienhaus · 14/12/2020 23:15

I know a (French) Margaux which might work better as a spelling? Margo looks a bit unfinished in my opinion.

BabyGirlNumber2 · 14/12/2020 23:15

Hahaha yes maybe I should just LTB! Grin

He is being quite annoying about it and weirdly a lot more stubborn and picky than he was with Everley, with her he vetoed a few but seemed fairly flexible. Now he actually laughs at half of my suggestions!

Everley and Lyla
Everley and Robyn
Everley and Bella
Everley and Annabel
Everley and Penny

Laplanddreams · 14/12/2020 23:16

Vivienne or Marion or Lillian

YoniAndGuy · 14/12/2020 23:17

Well he needs to give his head a wobble or this is going to get bogged down. I suggest that you tell him very clearly that the result of stonewalling is not going to be that you give in and call her Olivia, it will be tears and shouting and you registering her alone...

NeonSparkle · 14/12/2020 23:17

Everley and Winter
Everley and Cordelia
Everley and Autumn
Everley and Sadie
Everley and Lara
Everley and Maeve

Dreamymcdreamer · 14/12/2020 23:17

Lara
Alba
Alva
Veda (pronounced vayda)
Anya as suggested by a pp is lovely

You could go for something a bit more american sounding too like Madison

TheQueensGambit · 14/12/2020 23:17

Penelope (Penny) is a good shout imo. Think it goes with Everly and surely he wouldn't say "pen-eh-loap" Xmas Grin?!

TheQueensGambit · 14/12/2020 23:18

Has Matilda already been suggested?

YoniAndGuy · 14/12/2020 23:18

I mean, claiming people won't know how to say Margot? Does he have the faintest idea that it's back in, and is getting ever more popular? No? Then he needs to sharpen himself up. Laughing at your ideas? Perhaps it's time to get a bit upset next time he does that...

TheQueensGambit · 14/12/2020 23:18

Ottolie?

DramaAlpaca · 14/12/2020 23:18

Everley is a surname with a feminine feel, so I'd be inclined to pick something along similar lines.

The names which came to mind without thinking too much are Brooke and Morgan. Taylor is used as a girls' first name too.
