Talk me into my husband's faves

Ok, so there are a few names that we both like, but there are also a bunch that he likes and I don't. I didn't include any that I totally hate in this list, so these are just the ones that he likes and I don't care for. Please talk me into them! I'd like to find at least a couple here that I don't mind anymore.

Deirdre
Diane
Darla
Dakota
Danielle
Demelza
Dot

Why do you need to talk yourself into names your DH likes it there are others you both agree on? None of them are my taste to be honest. I do like Daphne, which is along similar lines to Deidre.

Pipapple · 05/12/2020 04:51

Danielle is lovely and unusual these days. Would only have Dot as a very cute nickname, Dorothy or Theodora? Prefer Diana to Diane. Don't really like the rest sorry.

SpudulikaSlob · 05/12/2020 04:52

I love Daphne like PP said. Or Delphine.
You two will just have to find one you both love.

BefuddledPerson · 05/12/2020 04:56

Agree with pp, if there are names you both like go with those. You can't talk yourself round on this sort of thing imo

Diverseduvet · 05/12/2020 05:03

What other names do you like Firefly?

Chailatte20 · 05/12/2020 05:20

Deidre Barlow off Corrie so a No Diane - rare these days, ppl might think you're a Princess Do fan. That's not a problem Darla reminds me of a 1950s American housewife Dakota as above, do you have any US links? Danielle - I prefer Daniella Demelza - sounds like a witch from a children's book Dot - I prefer Dorothy with the nn Dot.

Remember that you are naming an adult as well as a child.

chickenyhead · 05/12/2020 05:40

Gosh, I couldn't name my child any of them.

I would try to reach a different compromise name. I assume that it needs to start with a D.

I could probably be forced to live with:

Demi
Deeanna
Devin
Delphine

Pearsapiece · 05/12/2020 05:44

Why do they all begin with D?!

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 05/12/2020 05:45

I'm not keen on any of them, sorry - either too dated, odd or American sounding. But Diana is lovely, classical and elegant (and much less dated than similar Diane) - yes there is the tragic Princess link but that hasn't put people off the name Grace. Diana is also a Roman Goddess and an Amazon Warrior (Wonder Woman), either of which are cool namesakes for a little girl.

justilou1 · 05/12/2020 05:50

Do you know another D word? Divorce.

ThinkWittyThoughts · 05/12/2020 05:55

Delphine is beautiful but thanks to Peppa Pig is also a Donkey.

Daria
Dido
Desdemona
Dora
Dorothea (I've always preferred this to Dorothy)
Desiree
Diana

You need to love the name, both of you.
Also to echo a pp, think about the name at all stages of a child's life - it needs to work for an adult and get a child through the brutality of teenage years.

ThinkWittyThoughts · 05/12/2020 05:56

They’re all bad sorry. What about Diana?

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 05/12/2020 06:15

I could just about name my child Danielle but the rest are rest are awful.

Why can’t you name DC something you both like?

Diverseduvet · 05/12/2020 06:31

I think Firefly explained in one of her other threads why it has to begin with a D.

Diverseduvet · 05/12/2020 06:37

What's going on Firefly, maybe someone on MN could help?

HollyandIvyandallthingsYule · 05/12/2020 06:39

No...I don’t like any of those.

HollyandIvyandallthingsYule · 05/12/2020 06:41

I like Désirée.

Bupkiss · 05/12/2020 06:42

They are all Dreadful.

You should DtD (Ditch the Dickhead)

HollyandIvyandallthingsYule · 05/12/2020 06:42

Also Dominique

HollyandIvyandallthingsYule · 05/12/2020 06:43

Daphne is acceptable too.

porcelinaofthevastoceanss · 05/12/2020 06:43

All awful. Sorry OP! Incredibly dated.

Footle · 05/12/2020 06:52

How about Damaris? The emphasis is on the first syllable - as in Glamorous.

RAOK · 05/12/2020 07:01

Please don’t call your child Deirdre!

Sittinbythesea · 05/12/2020 07:06

All awful. Dorothy? Dorothea? Dulcie? Darcie?
