Twin girls names

Laurarara123 · 29/11/2020 05:37

Hey,

Expecting twin girls. DH and I have tentatively settled on: Clemency Rose and Constance Lily.

We like how the names have similar structures and sounds, without being too rhymey. And we're both fans of old-fashioned style names.

The middle names are shortened versions of traditional family names (Rosamund and Lillian) as a nod to my own middle name being a short of my grandmother's name, and because we thought the full names would be a bit much with those first names.

Please can I get some first impressions? Feel free to suggest similar alternatives. Thanks

I would switch Rosa and Lily to first names with clemency and constance as middle names. Or go Rosa Clemency and Constance Lily. That way not C & C but rather R & C. Not keem on clemency if honest, clem and connie as nicknames not great either. I'd use Rosa over Rose unless sticking with Clemency as a first name.

The names are lovely but personally I wouldn't have two initials the same for same sex twins. With the same birthday if a letter came it may be difficult to tell who it's for etc. Both will be Miss C Surname.

I'd steer clear of the whole 'twins' names starting with the same consonant' temptation and choose another virtue name to go with Clemency (which I prefer over Constance). Perhaps Honor?
Clemency and Florence also go well together.

Pearsapiece · 29/11/2020 06:32

I'll be honest, if I heard you shout those names in the park after your twins I would roll my eyes and think 'snob', HOWEVER, my ds has a 'snobby' name with a more 'common' shortened nickname so it depends what you want to shorten them to.

I'm not a face of constance at all and the two names both beginning with C is a bit much for me. I would change one

blisstwins · 29/11/2020 06:37

Clemency is a hard name for a girl. I have twins and hate that they both have names that begin with A. Rose and lily are actually as sweet as can be as firsts. Not what you asked. I like Constance too. Maybe Camille and Constance if you want the same letter?

paganbilly · 29/11/2020 06:47

I'd go with Rose and Lily because I think they sound nicer together. It you could go with Clem/Clemmie and Claire/Clara or Clem & Kate

JemimaTiggywinkle · 29/11/2020 06:47

I think Clemency and Constance are too similar, I think the names will get muddled into one in people’s heads.

I love both Rosamund and Lilian as full names though.. I would be tempted to use the full versions as middle names, with simpler first names.

Or Rosemary?
mathanxiety · 29/11/2020 06:59

They'll be Clemmie and Connie. I would go back to the drawing board and find names that are not so matchy with nickname possibilities that are not matchy either.

I actually think Lillian and Rosamund would be better as first names.

JauntyMcGinty · 29/11/2020 07:36

Not keen on Clemency, prefer Clementine. Agree the matching initials is a bad idea. I ihink Rosamund and Lilian are much better.

theculture · 29/11/2020 07:37

Think the PP's point about different initials is very important!!

ViewsAreMine · 29/11/2020 07:42

Different initials is very important. You want to make sure there aren't any mixups when for instance you call up the GP, or need to collect prescriptions on their behalf.

PurBal · 29/11/2020 07:52

I like both the names OP.

Nell96 · 29/11/2020 10:38

I really like both Lily and Rose / Rosa - simple, classic and elegant. I think Constance and particularly Clemency are awful - though Connie is quite nice as a nn. To me, they sound archaic, stuffy and quite clunky. If you want to go for a virtue name, Verity would be my choice. Other old fashioned names you might like -

Florence
Esther
Theodora
Cecily
Camilla / Camille
Ariadne
Clementine
Flora
Fleur
Beatrice / Beatrix
Sylvie / Sylvia
Sybil
Ophelia
Corinna

I agree with the comments about the initials being a pain for post etc when older. BUT how long is that likely to be for? About 10 years?

Personally I love your choices.

Diverseduvet · 29/11/2020 10:46

Way too similar. Sorry I dont like either, but what about Rosa and Lillith?

JauntyMcGinty · 29/11/2020 10:56

Its not just post though, kids love having stuff with their initial on and having the same for twins would be a pain. This may be part of a bigger theme though, I'm not a fan of twins being matched overly, I think individuality is important.
ILovemyCatsSoSoMuch · 29/11/2020 11:00

Really beautiful names.

If you chose those first names because they are your two favourite names then stick with them. If you chose one of the names so it matched the first, a rethink might be sensible given the hassle of matching initials.

Twisique · 29/11/2020 11:27

I would chance Clemency and use the longer middle names.

Twisique · 29/11/2020 11:28

Change*

Twisique · 29/11/2020 11:29

Someone suggested Beatrice, that would be nice, Connie and Bea.

Copernico · 29/11/2020 11:53

Are these two your absolute first and second choice names? I agree with others in avoiding twin names starting with the same letter. I say this as someone who has a matchy name to a sibling. I don’t know why my parents were thinking.

Plus these two names are so similar, too. FWIW I think they’re lovely names!

Copernico · 29/11/2020 11:54

what my parents were thinking, that is!

iwontfloaatt · 29/11/2020 12:43

In the most respectful way possible, OP, I think they're hideous. I dislike both of those first names on their own, but together they sound even more twee and pretentious. Rosamund and Lillian are much nicer, could you use them as the first names? Or just Lily and Rose/Rosa like others have suggested?
