Twin girls names

Laurarara123 · 29/11/2020 05:37

Hey,

Expecting twin girls. DH and I have tentatively settled on: Clemency Rose and Constance Lily.

We like how the names have similar structures and sounds, without being too rhymey. And we're both fans of old-fashioned style names.

The middle names are shortened versions of traditional family names (Rosamund and Lillian) as a nod to my own middle name being a short of my grandmother's name, and because we thought the full names would be a bit much with those first names.

Please can I get some first impressions? Feel free to suggest similar alternatives. Thanks

Really sorry but I prefer clementine to clemancy, Rosa to Rose, love Connie but really don't like Constance and lily is cute. Also agree with others that twins with the same initials isn't really a good idea

SE13Mummy · 29/11/2020 14:13

As others have said, I'd avoid using the same initial letter for twins to help with the recognising of them as individuals rather than as one half of a pair. Clemency is the one I'd drop and I'd replace it with Felicity or Verity if you're sold on virtue names, or something along the lines of Imogen, Harriet, Miranda, Lydia, Eliza or Madeleine if not. The middle names are lovely and Rose/Rosa works well with lots of three syllable first names.

Constance and Darcey?

m0therofdragons · 29/11/2020 14:32

Gp and nursery muddled my twins and they have different initials but with same initial, date of birth and address that’ll be really tricky to ID for those and bank accounts. I’m not a fan of matchy names either. My twins are identical but so different and I do everything I can to enable them to be individuals. At 9 it’s now very clear I’ve done the right thing for them.

from2metersthrowmeasweet · 29/11/2020 14:39

Really don't like clemency but the other names are nice ,also not keen on twins with names starting with the same letter.

MikeUniformMike · 29/11/2020 14:52

Not keen on Clemency but it's better than Clementine.

The two names are a bit too matchy matchy, but so are Rose and Lily.

I'd pick two different names that you and your DH love, and name them as sisters not twins. They will be 'The Twins' so much of the time, that their own identity will be appreciated.

You might want to give the older twin a name that comes after the younger twin's name alphabetically so that at least Twin2 will appear first on a list occasionally (e,g, Beth and Amy not Amy and Beth).

Thymeout · 29/11/2020 15:03

Well, going against the grain... These are practically the only pairings I've actually liked on Mumsnet.

Prefer Clemency to Clementine because it's softer and you don't have the teen? tie-n? pronunciation problem. I like Constance, too. Lily and Rose are fine as middle names, too popular for a first name, imo.

I like the balance, with 2 virtue names, followed by 2 flower names. So congratulations, op. Stick to your guns.

I think they sound lovely, they go really well together.

finallychangedmyusername · 29/11/2020 15:51

Neither of your first name choices are my personal preferred style, but there's nothing "wrong" with them.

Assuming you want matching initials, what about

Clementine Lily and
Clarabel Rosa

Or in a similar 'vintage style to your choices:

Harriet Lillian and
Lucinda Rosamund

Louisa Rosamund and
Susannah Lillian

Cordelia Rosamund and
Felicity Lillian

Eloise Lily and
Adelaide Rosa

I love a good virtue name. Prudence is my favourite. My dh thinks I am nuts! Connie and Prue would be cute though.

DramaAlpaca · 30/11/2020 02:07

Lots of negativity here, typical of an MN baby names thread Grin

OP, I almost never comment on threads about twins Wink but I have to say I adore your name choices. Just gorgeous, both of them.

womaninatightspot · 30/11/2020 02:10

I have twins I'd avoid the same initial tbh

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 30/11/2020 02:31

I'm not a fan of Constance and Clemency - partly because I dislike Con/Connie and Clem which I suspect they'll get shortened to, and also because starting with the same letter is a bit matchy for twins .

If you like virtue names then I find Verity, Felicity, Honor and Hope much more useable. Or if you want much more unusual/are feeling brave then Amity and Mercy have a certain charm to them too, or the more hippy Liberty and Serenity.

Rosamund and Lillian are gorgeous though and would make a great sibset! Is there a reason they couldn't be first names? Or maybe Rosa and Lillia? (if the family members Rosamund and Lillian are still around and you want to avoid confusion). Other vintage floral style suggestions for a first name - Jessamine/Jessamy, Viola, Dahlia, Rosalind, Flora, Bryony, May, Hazel and Iris.

Mavedrai · 30/11/2020 03:42

I have to echo what many PPs have said.

I am an identical twin and I have always been thankful that my sister and I were given totally distinct-sounding names (though both with mythological origins). I strongly encourage you to name your girls with the recognition that you are naming two unique people and not a "set". I imagine you're already trying to be mindful of this, but it does seem you're getting a little caught up with trying to make the names sound nice as a pair.

Now, that said, I love Constance. Very underused name in my opinion.

HeronLanyon · 30/11/2020 04:56

Congrats op !
I completely share view of pps Re avoiding similar/matchy names for the sake of both daughters.
mavedrai as an identical twin not only puts it perfectly but speaks from experience !

festivebug · 30/11/2020 08:30

I think they sound too similar, sorry. I don't mind Clemency but I dislike Constance.

VenusClapTrap · 30/11/2020 08:39

I love Connie/Constance. Not keen on Clemency and agree with everyone else you need different initials. I like the suggestion of Pru. Connie and Pru is adorable.

Pudding01 · 30/11/2020 09:06

Perfectly fine names (albeit not to my taste). I just find them too similar, especially for twins.

Like PP swap the names around to have Rose and Lily, which are gorgeous names or just one of them. I'd swap Clemency.

MercyBodle · 30/11/2020 12:26

A lovely pair of names. I'm not overly keen on twins having the same initial, however, this is such an interesting and classy pair of names I think you should stick with them. Clemency in particular has been a long term favourite of mine. Very balanced with the flower middles.

RuthW · 30/11/2020 14:46

I would have Clemency and Florence to avoid both beginning with c as it will cause chaos at medical appointments with the same dob.
