Tabitha or Vivienne

Always loved the name Vivienne but recently I've fallen in love with Tabitha and Bibi (bee-bee) as a nickname possibly at home. Not fussed on nicknames so it's not a deal breaker. Can take or leave them and open to variables.

Which do you prefer

Vivienne or Tabitha ?

Tabitha. I'm not fond of Vivienne.

DramaAlpaca · 27/11/2020 23:18

Vivienne, preferably spelled Vivien which is gorgeous and much less fussy.

I cannot stand Tabitha on a human. It's perfect on a cat though, the name of my favourite ever cat.

OP I don't find Tabitha too childlike. Maybe you think that because one of the most famous Tabitha's was the little girl in the TV Series Bewitched?

But I think of Tabitha King the writer (Stephen Kings wife) and it was also the name of a popular fashion model when I was a teenager (who was constantly in Mizz, Just 17 etc) - so I tend to think of cool older women as much as younger girls.

Mind you with Vivien I tend to think of the Lady of the Lake (Arthurian Legend) , rather than Pretty Woman so I may just be a bit odd...

Really is a split down middle on the names!
Must be quite a marmite type thing. Love one or the other

Yes I know what people are meaning on the Vivien vs Vivienne thing.
I agree I prefer Isobel over Isabelle for example so quite double standards for me to then want to use the fussier version....something to think about thanks.

I like these references

Glad you mentioned them :)

Vivienne reminds me of the prostitute in pretty woman, aside from that I'm not keen on it anyway, would likely be shortened to viv too, and Tabitha is more of a fairytale witch name to my mind, so not keen on either, sorry op

lakesidewinter · 27/11/2020 23:49

Tabitha.

GoogleWhacked · 27/11/2020 23:54

Vivienne for sure!

RaininSummer · 27/11/2020 23:57

Tabitha! Was on my list but was vetoed by her Dad.

Blueuggboots · 28/11/2020 00:00

Bibi is Mrs in punjabi I believe...

MercyBodle · 28/11/2020 01:48

I much prefer Tabitha.

octoberfarm · 28/11/2020 03:06

Love Tabitha!

Debradoyourecall · 28/11/2020 04:43

Vivienne makes me think of Vivienne Westwood more than Pretty Woman.

They’re both pretty names. How about Vianne (like the character in Chocolat) as an alternative?

Masssivefuckup · 28/11/2020 05:28

Tabitha.

There was a Tabitha at my uni - she was incredibly elegant, tall and slim with masses of curly hair, quite posh and studied theology. I was quite in awe of her as you can probably still tell.

Vivienne makes me think of Vyvyan from The Young Ones 🙄

festivebug · 28/11/2020 05:36

I'm not a fan of either but I much prefer Tabitha.

Kote · 28/11/2020 05:40

Vivienne. Really dislike Tabitha, especially with the nickname Tabby.

HeartShapedBox · 28/11/2020 05:52

Tabitha, it's lovely name 😊

Peachbubble · 28/11/2020 06:25

Tabitha 100%.

daisypond · 28/11/2020 06:46

Vivien - spelled like that- is my favourite
Tabitha is nice enough. It’s fine on an adult.
Vivienne-no, unless you are French. It’s silly otherwise.

RickOShay · 28/11/2020 06:57

Vivienne definitely.
I also prefer that spelling Grin

RickOShay · 28/11/2020 06:58

I really don’t like Tabitha, and she will eventually be Tabby at school.

Cheesypea · 28/11/2020 06:59

Vivienne is the only way I've seen it spelt in the uk personally. I like it.
Tabby cat?

custardbear · 28/11/2020 07:00

Tabitha, but I'm biased because I have a tabitha 😉 - nn is Tabby and she loves her name, and cats too lol

I also went to uni with a Tabitha and she was very nice

Vivienne is ok, reminds me of the young ones though

Bruce2 · 28/11/2020 07:58

Thanks for taking time to comment
I'll run different reasons for & against past my other half :)
