heyy, in my last post i asked June Maureen or April Maureen. The first names will stay my favorite bit you all said in combination with Maureen it sounds to old. But i really want to honor my moms name. So do you know a name almost the same as Maureen, with the same letters and it looks a lot alike? Please help. A name that fits with June or maybe April

The Maureen I knew went be Reni (Reeny)

loutypips · 25/11/2020 17:22

My dd thought that her auntie Maureen was called auntie Moron. I didn't want to correct her.

Reenie or Maura could be compromises?

MerchantOfVenom · 25/11/2020 17:23

Please just go with Maureen.

Who cares if it’s ‘old’? It’s a middle name, and it’s honouring your Mum.

mathanxiety · 25/11/2020 17:27

I would keep Maureen. I love the Irish spelling though. ILoveStickers posted it upthread. (Sorry, can't do the accents on my phone).

(Fwiw, I prefer June Maureen/ Mairin).

Scumble · 25/11/2020 17:31

Keep Maureen - middle names hardly get used, and as PP say, names like your mum's aren't actually your mum's name.

I quite like the two middle name suggestion above.

Donnaj28 · 25/11/2020 17:34

@Scumble what would you like as a 2th middle name? June ..... Maureen

HardlyEver · 25/11/2020 17:36

@Apileofballyhoo

Maureen just means little Mary. I think in Ireland it would have been usual to have had Mary or Máire (Maura roughly, just the Irish version of Mary) on the birth cert, but to be known as Maureen at home. I wonder what was on your Mum's birth cert, OP?
This is what I was going to say -- I come from a family of Bredas, Bríds, and Bridies, all of whom are Bridget or Brigid on their birth certs.

Mary might be nice? I was also going to suggest Muireann, which I like.

Viviennemary · 25/11/2020 17:37

I'm not keen on the name Maureen but use it as a middle name. I really like April and June is nice too. Not keen on Moira.

Scumble · 25/11/2020 17:45

I like the PPA suggestion of June Olivia Maureen

I also quite like June Meredith Maureen, you might find it a bit 'm'y though Grin

June Sophia Maureen?

justleavemebe · 25/11/2020 17:46

My daughter has Maureen for one of her middles names. Her full name is Scarlett Millie Maureen.
Millie is after my deceased nan and Maureen after my ex Dp deceased nan.
I don't care if people don't like her name it's in memory of our nans who were a big part of our lives and they never got to meet our daughter.
For what it's worth I saw your other thread op and I like June Maureen.

irregularegular · 25/11/2020 17:49

Maud? Might work OK with April?

But honestly, I don't think it really matters if people think the middle name "sounds odd" with the first name. It's not that you are going to say them together very often are you?

81Byerley · 25/11/2020 17:50

I'd go for April Maureen. It's a beautiful name.

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 25/11/2020 17:52

I would go with June Maureen.

I also like the idea of another middle name before Maureen.

YoniAndGuy · 25/11/2020 18:06

If you are absolutely set on June or April (and I agree that they're just awful - so dreary) then put something in between?

April Charlotte Maureen

June Sophie Maureen

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 25/11/2020 18:06

April hasn't been used often enough to sound old-fashioned/dated so April Maureen is fine. As pp have said if you want to honour your Mum then you ought to use the name she is known by. Yes Maureen is old-fashioned but in the middle spot hardly anybody will know about it!

The only exception would be if your Mum dislikes her own name and so doesn't want you to use it, or uses a nickname herself - then I'd use the nickname instead. But if Maureen is your middle name too, then I definitely think you should use it - it's a lovely link between 3 generations of women!

eggandonion · 25/11/2020 19:23

What is the other grandmother called assuming she is around?

Donnaj28 · 25/11/2020 19:48

@eggandonion the other grandmas name is Henny but we dont have a lot of contact with her

Keep Maureen! My dd has a very dated middle name, in honour of my mum. If I were to ask people’s opinions of it on here, it would get savaged. I’ve even seen it come up in ‘worst name’ threads. But I don’t give two hoots - it was my mum’s name and is very special to me. Dd loves it and is proud of it - she wouldn’t have it any other way (she’s ten). She also has an old lady name as her first name - I think they go together beautifully.

Personally I love April, so think you should go with April Maureen. It’s lovely.

Muireann pronounced Mwirren.

Or just spell it Mwirren. or Muirren

I think Maureen is disgusting but Muireann is lovely.
I also really love Marianne and Miriam but they're not as close to Maureen

Yennefer19 · 25/11/2020 20:02

I would personally just use Maureen, but if you want a different name maybe Mara.

Or you could keep the reen and maybe have something like Shireen.

OwlOne · 25/11/2020 20:02

Or just Mary?

UniversalHadIt · 25/11/2020 20:05

@OwlOne

Disgusting? Really? Up there with stepping in dog muck or seeing someone vomit against a bus stop at 7am on a Sunday after a big night out?

Or is it just a name you don’t really like and you’re employing a bit of thoughtless hyperbole?

OP- use Maureen. It was your mams name, changing it is only half an honour.

OwlOne · 25/11/2020 20:09

@universalHadlt um ''thoughtless hyperbole''. hold up a mirror to your own post I think.

This is a name board, the op is looking for names like Maureen. I gave one. If the op liked the name herself she wouldn't be asking.

Allow others to have an opinion please.

alexdgr8 · 25/11/2020 20:11

keep Maureen.

IHateCoronavirus · 25/11/2020 20:13

Maureen is beautiful op, just like your mum is to you, and the tradition of the name passing down mother to daughter will be to your baby girl.
For what it is worth one of the most inspirational women I knew was a Maureen.
Congratulations on your baby op,
