Thoughts on the name on its own? Or better shortened from Christopher / Christian?

Not really keen on Christopher as know quite a few people named Chris

OP posts:

Don't love it but don't hate it either. Its good to have different names though and I have never met a Kit!

BatleyTownswomensGuild · 21/11/2020 08:13

I love it!

MikeUniformMike · 21/11/2020 08:14

I know one who is just Kit. The Rooneys have on who AFAIK is just Kit.
I'm not keen on the name.

TotalBitch · 21/11/2020 08:42

I like it. We had it on our list for DS, short for Christopher. But DH didn't like the Kit shortening and neither of us liked Chris, so we discounted it. I do like Christian too.

Kit on its own is a bit Rooney for some reason. I only like it short for something.

FippertyGibbett · 21/11/2020 08:43

I like it as a name in itself, it doesn’t need to be short for anything.

Namechangedforthisoct2 · 21/11/2020 08:43

Love Kit just on its own!

butterpuffed · 21/11/2020 08:44

I like the name , it's unusual but don't use if your surname's Kat Wink

Merename · 21/11/2020 08:47

I like it and wouldn’t use a longer name if there isn’t one you really like.

Bubbinsmakesthree · 21/11/2020 08:51

I’m generally opposed to diminutives used as a given name but I think this one works, and is it’s a lovely name - it manages to sound both modern and have a ‘Swallows and Amazons’ wholesome retro vibe to it as well.

If it were me my only reservation is I tend to riff on names to create nicknames (I have a Josh who I always call Joshy) so I would always be at risk of calling them Kitty

Whatsyourflava · 21/11/2020 09:21

I LOVE Kit. One of my favourite names by a mile
I think Kit stands as a name in its own right and I'd put that on the birth certificate if thats what you're going to call him day to day anyway

Kenana · 21/11/2020 09:21

Was just talking about this name.
Lovely name by itself. Also:
Keith
Keaton
Kittrick

bellinisurge · 21/11/2020 09:24

I know a female Kit

pinkpinecone · 21/11/2020 09:31

Love the name Kit

It works well as a stand alone name. I'm not keen on Christopher at all it sounds very different if you put it on the BC he may well end up as Chris.

M0rT · 21/11/2020 09:34

I love it too. I think as it's not the automatic shortening of Christopher/Christian you should just have Kit or one of the names suggested above on the birth certificate.

Zolaanna · 21/11/2020 10:25

I really dislike it. It's twee and weak sounding. Bit like Tim of 2020

YoniAndGuy · 21/11/2020 10:40

Yes, Kester - love that name.

MoonBaby1 · 21/11/2020 10:42

I know a lovely midwife called Kit and a cute little boy too. Works for men and women old and young!

HeronLanyon · 21/11/2020 11:07

Has strong Elizabethan/Shakespearean vibe for me. Historic. Strong.

MondeoFan · 21/11/2020 11:09

I know a Kit he's in his 20's, I think that's just his name as I asked him ages ago what it was short for and he said that's his name

micc · 21/11/2020 12:43

Love it!

justanotherneighinparadise · 21/11/2020 12:44

I like it! I’d go for Christopher on his birth certificate and Kit as a NN 👌

justanotherneighinparadise · 21/11/2020 12:45

Actually I’m really annoyed I didn’t do that!!! 🤬🤣

Bbq1 · 21/11/2020 12:50

Lovely name

MonaLisaPiles · 21/11/2020 12:55

My eldest son is called Kit
Not short for Christopher just Kit

It really suits him and he loves it Grin

Great name and works for a child or an adult

CosyQueen · 21/11/2020 12:57

Love it and think there is no need to use a longer version if you don’t want to!
