That song!!!! Awful

Trailer trash

It’s a lovely name, pretty, a bit hippy and unusual. Works well in all settings IMO. Doesn’t remind me of the song Jolene at all (and that’s from a big Dolly fan!).

Go for it OP, if you like it x

@cloverbug I'm Australian as well and I would pronounce it the same as Jolie personally I've come across the Joely spelling once before and she was a lovely lady never had anyone pronounce her name any different

Not a huge fan of joely but love Joni, similar vibes?

cupcakedestroyer · 05/04/2022 12:05

Joely, Joelle and Jolene are the only Jo names (that I can think of) that I don't particularly like. I could probably withstand Jolene just because the song is so brilliant. What about Josephine, Joanna or simply Jo?

Also not keen on Joella.

My name is Joely!
I was named after Joely Richardson, Vanessa Redgrave's daughter.
It's pronounced Jo - eh - lee, with the Jo and eh (more like a long aa sound) said quickly together.
I'm in my fifties, so it's been an unusual name to have (before Angelina Jolie made it more known - but also hers is spelt/ and pronounced slightly differently), but it has always been well met, and liked by others.
I was always told by my mother that it meant 'daughter of sunlight'.
And yes, if I had a pound for everytime someone has sung the Jolene song, I'd be very rich!
But, it's not been a problem.
I also got used to answering to Jolene, Josie, Jody etc when younger, and people got it wrong.

Padderbadger · 15/04/2022 02:21

I think it's pretty!
