I've also thought Joseph was a great name love both the Bible stories and it just feels like a strong, classic name that would suit various ages and personalities. I feel like I know more Edwards than Josephs but they're at probably a similar level of popularity I think.

Both lovely, can’t choose sorry

Edward for me , even though both are classic, traditional choices -Edward just feels more classic! I think it's because unlike Joseph it's been in the English top 100 for at least the last 120 years, plus Edward is so well used by classic authors - Shakespeare, Austen etc. Edward also has so much more variety of nn choices if he doesn't like it when he's older (I like the more unusual nn's Bear or Iolo myself!)

Joseph is lovely

Both proper names. I prefer Edward because he can be Edward, Ed, Eddie, Ted, Teddy etc etc. Whatever he wants to be.

I quite like the shortening of Edward into Eddie for little boys and Ed when they are older

Joseph all the way for me. It was my Dad's name (known as Joe) and it's our son's middle name, and he loves it.
