Which do you prefer?

Kane choice inspired by Citizen Kane and the cool Harry Kane.

My first thought was cain from emmerdale. I’m not a huge fan of either of them, which do you prefer OP?

ChanklyBore · 02/11/2020 21:15

Dale like Winton?

C/Kane like the thing they used to be hit with at school?

NoMoreFlowers · 02/11/2020 21:16

My honest opinion is that are both dreadful and really chavvy

KitKatastrophe · 02/11/2020 21:18

Neither to be honest.

I would probably go for Dale. I have known 3 boys called Kane/Cane/Cain and they were all a pretty horrible.

dementedma · 02/11/2020 21:19

Dd2’s new bf is called Dale. He’s 30. Never met a Dale before.

dementedma · 02/11/2020 21:20

Oh and not remotely chavvy. What a horrible thing to say

lottiegarbanzo · 02/11/2020 21:22

Cole, Otis, Seth, Conrad, Vinny?

honkytonkheroe · 02/11/2020 21:22

I dislike Kane to least but I really dislike Dale. It’s very 1970s.

honkytonkheroe · 02/11/2020 21:23

And I do think both are chavvy.

lottiegarbanzo · 02/11/2020 21:26

I've met much older Dales, in their 60s and 70s now but would expect it to be gravitating towards becoming a girl's name now. Very much in the Blair, Ashley, Aubrey school of softer surnames and male names becoming used and feminised in the US, then misunderstood here.

formerbabe · 02/11/2020 21:26

Dale for sure

Kane is a bit of a bad boy name imo..

DuzzyFuck · 02/11/2020 21:26

Dale is in his late 30s, slightly overweight, a tradesman. Salt of the earth. Wears timberland boots and drives an Audi A6 with the cheapest spec. He's got a Staffordshire bull terrier called dolly.

Kane works in finance and he's teetotal. Takes himself too seriously. Drives a Volvo estate and goes skiing twice a year. Cat person. He did Movember in 2016 and decided to keep it.

Ladderofyears · 02/11/2020 22:23

Dale is very 70s and not in a cool way.
Kane definitely has a naughty boy vibe for me - the ones I've met have been really hard work.
But I think I'd still go for Kane over Dale.

SenorFrog · 02/11/2020 22:26

I'm related to a Dale, far from chavvy bit of a geek and 60.

Kane is awful.

KnightsofColumbusThatHurt · 02/11/2020 22:28

They are both horrid! Sorry!

Audreyseyebrows · 02/11/2020 22:33

Neither! Both awful!

Ginger1982 · 02/11/2020 22:37

Naughty boy names.

Nellle · 02/11/2020 22:42

I usually don't reply to these because you love the names you love, but....

Kane is the naughtiest boy in the school.
Dale will never be seen in anything but a tracksuit.

Mammyloveswine · 02/11/2020 22:45

Sorry both are awful..

Harry is nice?

Mammyloveswine · 02/11/2020 22:46

@lockdownbreakdown

No little boy has been given either of these names since the 1980's in the UK so neither as they weren't great the first time around. Back to the drawing board OP! It's like asking Kelly or Michelle for a baby girl!
I've taught several in the last 10 years..
Heyha · 02/11/2020 22:48

I've taught more nice Dales than I have Kanes.

Bringonspring · 02/11/2020 22:49

Neither sorry

ErrolTheDragon · 02/11/2020 23:02

Neither ... but of the pair, Dale is much nicer. The connotations of the word are lovely hills, whereas Kane sounds either like a stick, sugar, or the first mythological murderer.

VenusClapTrap · 03/11/2020 09:02

@FridaBarfloh

Kane and Dale are no better or worse than Bodhi or Rufus.
I prefer them to Bodhi and Rufus, which are a bit yawn.

I’d pick Dale out of the two.

KnightsofColumbusThatHurt · 03/11/2020 10:14

Kane has no positive connotations for me at all. It makes me think of that horrible old fella from Poltergeist, or the guy that kills his brother in the Bible (I know it's spelt differently) or just a really naughty kid. It looks and sounds horrible.

And Dale.... Just.... There are so many lovely boys names out there!
