Too little women?

So have a Dd called Josephine, Josie or probably more commonly Jo for short.

Due DS soon and going through our shortlist of names. One on the list is Laurence, Laurie for short but occurred to me that we'd have named both our children after lead characters from Little women. Would people think this if hearing the names together and think it's a bit twee or am I thinking too much into it?

If one is a boy, no one will think Little Women!

I think Jo and Laurie together will remind most people of Little Women. I do like both names but I wouldn’t use both together.

It’s one of my favourite books and although I’d make the connection I wouldn’t think it odd. They didn’t even end up together!

I’d make the connection but I think the pp who suggested “most people” would do so is vastly overestimating the general public. MN users tend to be better educated than average.

They’re not names I would use personally however I do think they sound good together

I'd make the book connection but a lot of people might not (unless maybe they keep releasing a new film version every few years as they seem to currently!) But as pp said it's a fairly innocuous connection (and Heath Ledger's parents got away with naming his sister Kate - aka Heathcliff and Catherine).

Josephine and Laurence are lovely names by the way, classic, distinguished, but not overly common. Laurie is a really nice nn for Laurence - the only other one I can think of is Ren (other than dated Larry). If we could go back in time I'd suggest Effie/Sephie for Josephine so you wouldn't be as concerned about the Little Women "Jo" connection, but it's a bit late now!

I wouldn't, personally. I so wanted Josephine and Laurie to get together in the end!

My DDs have two Little Women names between them, one a first name and one a middle name. Entirely unintentional on my part and no-one has ever commented on the connection.

Wasn't Laurie actually called Theodore though?

Thanks for all your replies - is really helpful getting outside perspective as do have a tendency to overthink/go nuts in this whole trying to pick out a baby name process!

Literary rather than literate. Unless you live somewhere where most people can’t read.

If you use Josie for your DD more, then it makes it less little women

It makes me think of the comedian Josie Lawrence. But that wouldn’t put me off.
