Is this a reasonable choice for a baby boy? My friend wants to choose it... she's white and middle class. It just seems a strange choice to me.

@MikeUniformMike

Thing is, snobbery exists whether you like it or not, and if your name says something about your socio-economic background, it will affect how some people will pre-judge you.

A name might define you as being a certain age group, or your social class, or your cultural background and so on.

If OP said her friend was going to name her baby Darren, Nigel or Gary you'd probably say something that was ageist.

Yup.

Is snobbery shit? Yes.

Doesn’t mean that it doesn’t exist and have a real impact on how people perceive you and the assumptions they make within the first 30 seconds of hearing your name.

I have a real 1980s name, probably on a par with Jayden for being tied to a particular socioeconomic group. My sister has a classic name and I’m so envious that people can’t pinpoint her age to a five year time period.

I dont feel its race or class related. Jayden/Aiden/Hayden/Kayden (and all spellings) have all been very popular in the last 5 years

I think it is a chav name and l always associate it with naughty boys!!

I used to think it was a modern, made-up type name, but it is actually an old Hebrew name - I came round to liking it more when I realised that!
