Is this a reasonable choice for a baby boy? My friend wants to choose it... she's white and middle class. It just seems a strange choice to me.

I know a teenage Jayden. He is a lovely, articulate and kind boy, from a lovely family.
It’s not a name I would choose but you can become whoever you want and while a name is important, it’s not the be all and end all.

If that was my thinking before meeting a child in my class then it would be time for me to rethink my career choices.

I’m not a fan of the “ay” sound, generally. It tends to just sound a bit harsh for my taste.

@FuckKnowsMate, it's what happens. The name indicates what the child's parents will be like.

People make associations. You can't help it. It's a normal, useful, human behaviour to spot and anticipate patterns.

If your friend started dating a man called Tristram and mentioned his siblings Ludmilla, Ptolemy and Cressida, you'd make an educated guess as to their background. Ditto a new girlfriend Peace and her siblings Rainbow, Storm and Ocean. Or Jayden and his siblings Kayenne, Lilli-Mae and Tyla.

Sometimes these speculations prove wrong of course but of course we notice these patterns.

Jayden has certain associations in socioeconomic terms. Not always borne out but present in the public consciousness nonetheless.

Rightly or wrongly, your idea of what little Diamante or Jaxon will be like will be different from what your idea of Edward and Harriet will be like.

jay...den nothing pleasant sounding about it. Plus it doesn’t come across as middle class- if anything possibly the opposite?

Jadon is a biblical name, so it could be the spelling.

Where is Jadon in the Bible? Not disputing it, I'd just like to know.

That's really interesting about it being a biblical name. The spelling Jadon is so much nicer.

It was someone on here who when I pointed out that Jaden was in the bible, corrected me that the biblical one is Jadon.

Jared is biblical too. He's in Genesis 5:18–20.

For some reason i find them less jarring than the Micah, Eli and Ezekiel type names.

I always thought it was one of those silly, modern names which has little meaning; probably a mixture of two names such as Jason and Dennis. However, on investigation I see it means:

"Hebrew, Spanish. Either from the name of the green stone, or from the Hebrew meaning "thankful". Pronounced: JAY dun. Jayden is a popular name with celebrity parents."
and on another site:

"Jayden is a name for boys and girls, but is more often used as a boy’s name. The name was presumably created in the US and is a very new name. It derived from the names Jay and Hayden. Jay is a short form of a lot of names, Hayden was originally a family name. Jayden could as well be a form of Jade or of the Hebrew name Jadon."

Either way I think it is naff.

It's an ok name and fairly popular. Or she could go for Aiden

Jay is also a lovely shortened version.

I had a class a couple of years ago (EYFS) which had a Jayden, Kaiden, Aidan and Hayden!

All of those names are now in the annoyingly rhyming box of boys names I wouldn’t use.

I don't like it either and probably would make certain assumptions but maybe your friend has reasons for choosing the name.
Brayden and Kayden are truly dreadful. The sound of Brayden literally makes me shudder!
