Girls name: which spelling?

Heard this name recently but unsure of which spelling....
Indie/Indi/Indy

To add I immensely dislike India (its a country name), Indigo (its a colour) and Indiana (again a place name).

I knew someone many years ago who named their daughter Indira Violet and thought that sounded gorgeous.
But I would ideally like to use middle name Matilda.

Which spelling do you prefer? Indie/Indi/Indy
Which would sound nicer? Indie/Indi/Indy Matilda or Indira Violet?

The funny thing is, Matilda is one of those names that a pp mentioned that used to be old-fashioned and is now popular, like Ingrid. Also, if the OP wants popular names (because they're popular for a reason), Ingrid is much higher up the charts than Indira and roughly as popular as Tiana (I checked on darkgreener.com).

I think Ingrid is too sophisticated for the OP

She should stick to the Disney name

In all fairness whilst the OP's response was rude she didn't actually ask for opinions on the name or for suggestions so those resources could have been considered rude too.

FWIW i don't believe in "sophisticated" or "disney" names - we all know what the snobbish insinuation is there 🙄 - but I'd much rather use Indie than Ingrid because I just don't like the sound of it.

I think if people don't read your message properly it's best to just ignore their comment rather than be rude to them. They might have accidentally misread your message or don't have the best reading skills or they think you might appreciate something out with what you're asking for.

When you post saying which do you like better X or Y, you are going to get people telling you they're both awful or suggesting new ones. It might not be helpful to you, but best to ignore rather than respond to them.

@anonymous1234567890, DD2 has a friend called Ingrid and she is far from dowdy or old fashioned. It really suits her and is unusual without being out there.

Matilda and Violet are fine but Indy is a bit unaspirational.

Don't like Tiana at all, I work in a very deprived area in Children's Safeguarding and Disney names are very common amongst the families I work with. Not a judgement thing, just a pitfall of working with children!

The fact that you specifically mentioned that these names are common in your families with safeguarding in a deprived area shows that it is absolutely a "judgement thing". Reminds me of when KH suggesting that certain names seemed to be more popular amongst "chavs"...

I've worked with children and families across the board for almost 18 years and names are a total mixed bag depending on the trends of the time.

It's because of these trends that it's put me off the name...be uppity all you like but I don't believe anyone who's ever worked with children have not been put off names by people they've worked with. I've done the job 20yrs, it's just a normal reaction. Having negative connotations down to real life experiences is not the same as "judging" a name to be "chavy" based on preconceptions. Surely you can see the difference. I'm sure you've taken the names of the worst families you've ever worked with and used them as inspiration though - you're clearly very virtuous. I am not as good as you so yes working with abusers/neglect/DV etc has put me off using names that remind me of that.

I quite like Ingrid.
