Girls name: which spelling?

anonymous1234567890 · 11/10/2020 10:01

Heard this name recently but unsure of which spelling....
Indie/Indi/Indy

To add I immensely dislike India (its a country name), Indigo (its a colour) and Indiana (again a place name).

I knew someone many years ago who named their daughter Indira Violet and thought that sounded gorgeous.
But I would ideally like to use middle name Matilda.

Which spelling do you prefer? Indie/Indi/Indy
Which would sound nicer? Indie/Indi/Indy Matilda or Indira Violet?

Many thanks.

@MWNA I'm speaking from a previous bad experience on this site. And reading comments from many members who act as I have put in my previous message.

@MaryShelley1818 I actually know of a children's court social worker who recently named her baby Tiana. So may just be your experience.

@EmilySpinach No that is completely incorrect. I am not spoiling for a fight. People on this site should be less judgemental and kinder. Some of the comments your read are just rude.

I don't understand the thought behind a name. I just picked names I liked for my DC's. I didnt worry about the spelling, or if it wasn't serious enough. If you like a name for you DD have it, and don't overthink it or you'll never pick a name because I'm sure all of them have a negative background if you think hard enough about them.

Nobody has been unkind. You bit @MercyBodle’s head off for making a suggestion and you owe her an apology.

anonymous1234567890 · 11/10/2020 16:34

@EmilySpinach Please look back to the original post, which I feel I wrote in a way that people would understand. And in that post, there was absolutely no mention of wanting name suggestions. Ingrid isn't the same style as Indie. No where near. Its dowdy and old fashioned.

The only person being rude on this thread is you OP. Don't take your previous frustrations out on people offering polite opinions.

Indie Matilda is lovely (as is Ingrid, even if it's not to your taste).

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 11/10/2020 16:53

You asked for people’s preferences out of two names. @MercyBodle offered a similar sounding name. I would say they are fairly similar (as do a lot of people on this thread). No one has been rude apart from you. If you don’t like Ingrid, just politely say it’s not to your taste.

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 11/10/2020 16:54

To answer your question, I prefer Indie Matilda.

Pudding01 · 11/10/2020 17:07

OP: I left mn because od judgmental and bitchy comments.

Also OP: That is one name that shouldn't be revive. Terrible! And clearly isn't the style I'm going for!

👌

Wow - how rude are you ?

Totally agree with @TheVeryHungryTortoise and others.
You have been rude to a poster.
Youare saying people are judgemental on here and yet your posts are FULL of judgement of people's names Hmm

Why so rude ?

The mumsnet people seem to dislike any current top 100 names and expect all children to be named really obscure names. Popular names are popular for a reason before they are gorgeous and well loved! Names like Ingrid aren't popular because they are dowdy and old fashioned. End of.
Mumsnet get so much bad press as being stuck up and bitchy. And that is definitely not what I want. I want names that don't make my child different and potentially bullied for their name.
So goodbye. I will not be back. You are not people I wish to associate with.

Mischance · 11/10/2020 17:34

Not a Disney princess please!

Indie, spelt however, makes me think of independent - e.g. IndieSage.

But Indira is nice.

....says the poster complaining about people being judgemental about name choices Confused

percheron67 · 11/10/2020 17:51

Indira is lovely. Indie is a fast and dangerous race track in America?!

I will not be back Let's hope that's a promise.
ValancyRedfern · 11/10/2020 22:01

Well that escalated fast! In case you come back OP. I think Indira is lovely. Not keen on Indie (it's an adjective to me) but I don't think it matters how you spell it. I also love Tianna.

Hmm12121 · 11/10/2020 22:06

Ingrid is a beautiful name.

😂😂😂 Like we should be begging you to stay or something. Don't let the door hit your arse as you go...

Jaysus, what an overreaction from OP. Ingrid is much nicer than Indie, anyway. Indira is the best of them all!

Ginfilledcats · 11/10/2020 22:31

Indie Matilda is lovely

You are not!

Don't like Tiana at all, I work in a very deprived area in Children's Safeguarding and Disney names are very common amongst the families I work with. Not a judgement thing, just a pitfall of working with children!

The fact that you specifically mentioned that these names are common in your families with safeguarding in a deprived area shows that it is absolutely a "judgement thing". Reminds me of when KH suggesting that certain names seemed to be more popular amongst "chavs"...

I've worked with children and families across the board for almost 18 years and names are a total mixed bag depending on the trends of the time.

AlwaysLatte · 11/10/2020 22:56

Well that went well.

StayClosePooky · 11/10/2020 23:01

Bloody hell, what just happened Grin

EarlGreyJenny · 11/10/2020 23:03

In the spirit of your manner, I won't sugar coat this. Tiana is a dreadful name.
