Baby boy names list help please

Finally pinned my other half down to talk through baby names for our little boy due in Jan and have formed a list which is by no means final but has names we both felt were possibilities. If you could give me your honest opinions please and any suggestions of other names you think we might like. Our first dd is called Josephine/Josie

Harry
Jamie (DH dislikes James so would be Jamie on BC)
Oscar
Robert (we will probably call him Bobby day to day)
William

Thinking of Patrick Douglas or Angus as middle name

Surname is easy going with most things two syllables.

I’m not keen on Robert and if it was shortened Robbie would be better. Are you Scottish? That, and if you live in the west has bearing on whether William is a good idea, it’s a lovely name but best avoided if live near Glasgow and especially not with Patrick as a middle name. The other three and all your middle names much less problematic. Jamie Douglas or JD could be cool but I actually like all the combinations.

Tillygetsit · 07/10/2020 22:44

I love all your mns and to be brutal, am not keen on your first names. How many syllables does your last name have and what does it start with?
P.S. Josie is gorgeous.

PinkJellycat · 07/10/2020 22:47

Second PP, love your middle names.

Would Patrick Douglas be possible? That's lovely.

caringcarer · 07/10/2020 22:51

I love Douglas. My best friend used to be called Douglas. James is better than Jamie as Jamie nice when a child but not so much as an adult. I love Bruce if looking for Scottish name. Robert ok but don't like Robbie. Bobby ok. Angus ok as middle name also Hamish.

@PinkJellycat

Second this one!

No worries I did ask for honesty!

Live in Scotland but not west coast and relocated southeners but good to think about re: William around Glasgow - had not really thought about that!

Interesting to hear reactions middle names Vs first names. We have been toying with Douglas as a first name as well & is growing on me. Angus and Patrick I love the full names but I do like having nn options and not keen on Pat/paddy or gus particualrly!

Surname is two syllables begins and ends with a consonant. Don't really want to give away much more than that as is a bit outing with other personal information I've given out but it goes with most things

I love all your names except Oscar. They all combine nicely with the middle names too. You can't go far wrong really, whatever you choose.

All go well with Josie (lovely name).

LouiseTrees · 07/10/2020 23:24

What about Douglas Patrick then?

Catsup · 07/10/2020 23:34

Nice choices! I also like Brodie, Lachlan, Alisdair, Donald, Roderick

janetmendoza · 07/10/2020 23:50

I love Robert / Bobby very refreshing.

Enough4me · 07/10/2020 23:54

Jamie Douglas, but I would put James on BC to let him decide if he wants full name as an adult.

MercyBodle · 08/10/2020 00:34

I really like Harry, Oscar and William and think they'd all be great choices. All your names work with sister Josephine/Josie. I also like Patrick, Douglas and Angus very much and think they'd all make great first names. I do like Paddy, Doug and Gus though!

PlantPotting · 08/10/2020 07:24

I really like

Harry
Oscar
William

I do like Patrick and Angus but do agree about the nickname Pat, it put me off the name too

CakeRattleandRoll · 08/10/2020 07:25

Love Robert. Would use Douglas as mn. Or Angus, as long as surname doesn't start with T or G.

missmouse101 · 08/10/2020 07:25

I like Oscar Jamie.

Swiftnicola · 08/10/2020 07:30

I like Angus, best followed by Robert. I love Bobby as a nickname ( but I hate Robbie)

MikeUniformMike · 08/10/2020 12:43

Harry - fine. I know so many.
Jamie (DH dislikes James so would be Jamie on BC) - Fine, but I much prefer James
Oscar - not keen
Robert (we will probably call him Bobby day to day) - ok, but prefer Robbie
William - ok. Billy is quite nice

Not much help, but of those listed I'd pick James nn Jamie.

Sunflowers247 · 08/10/2020 15:07

Harry, Jamie and Oscar are too common/overused imo. William has the Willy teasing potential and Will will problem.

I like Robert and Douglas best!

Firebird83 · 08/10/2020 20:55

I like Robert and Douglas best too.

Bearcub01 · 08/10/2020 21:33

Haha! Yeah as mentioned above William and Patrick do not go well together in Scotland sadly.
James is the only name on my list at the minute but would definitely consider Jamie too, I love both. Douglas is also a great name! Jamie Douglas goes well together.

DarkDarkNight · 08/10/2020 21:36

I love your middle name choices too, not helpful I know.

TeensArghhh · 08/10/2020 21:38

Out of your list I like Harry except it is very popular at the moment.

I much prefer James to Jamie. I don’t like Jamie at all. It’s ok for a boy but sounds silly for a man.

Heh1991 · 08/10/2020 21:58

Love most of these names!

Not a huge fan of Jamie (much prefer James) and don’t like Robert! X

Catwoman1985 · 08/10/2020 22:04

Not a big fan of the first names but neither are they offensive or horrendous, but really like Patrick and Angus.

dalmationsandcats · 08/10/2020 22:31

I'm curious; what is the issue with William / William Patrick in Glasgow?

Oscar is my favourite. It's what I wanted to use but DH vetoed it Sad
