Thoughts on Dominic? Help me think of other names for our shortlist...

So we’re due to have a little boy early next year and stuck on names for our shortlist, want a couple of options ideally.

Middle name is almost definitely going to be James and last name is two syllables beginning with P

Thoughts on Dominic as an option? I always thought it would be more popular than it is so worried there’s a reason for it’s decline!

And can you suggest any similar names for us to consider? Basically not a fan of anything too trendy and modern but also not a fan of really old style names- boy names are hard!!

Only other names I like are Charlie (already a child in the family with that name so no) and Oliver (too popular, already know about 3 babies called that so also a no)

I like Dominic.

I really like it, HOWEVER I can only think of Dominic Cummings right now so I took it off my list.

Benedict has a similar feel to Dominic for me.

I was coming on to suggest Benedict too. Very underused, I think, and doesn't have the same Barnard Castle connotations as Dominic.

Yes - Dominic is a lovely lovely name that is currently ruined for me by Cummings.

Yeah it just makes me think of Dominic Cummings now. Not good.

Dominic is fine and a good traditional name (and any Dominic Cummings link will subside over time - actually I didn’t even think of him when I read the title).

Dominic is a great name! And so what if someone well-known has that name ... that applies to loads of names!

I like the name Dominic but it will be shortened to Dom and it sounds yuck

I went to school with a Dominic...horrible child so always tainted and Cummings not improved that!...

Ehh Id say I agree with @Standrewsschool and @TimeStoleMyYouth on the political namesakes, can’t imagine anyone associating the name with a forgettable politician in the future but each to their own 🤷‍♀️

Dominic is a great name! (I have one though, so I'm biased)

Agree that Benedict had a similar vibe; it was also on our shortlist, but didn't want DS to be called Benny!
No one will remember Cummings in a year or two.

Dominic - Cummings, West, Raab. Not selling it.

Big bad Dom. - not so bad as it kills 99.9 % of all known germs dead.

Dislike Dom as a nn, but Dominic itself is OK.

I suggest Nicholas as an alternative. nn Nick. Neutral, classic, won't date badly.

Maybe I’m thick but who’s Dominic Cummings?
There’s nothing wrong with the name Dominic and the only one I know of I was in school with.

Dominic Raab too.
Big Bad Dom was an advert for a well-known brand of bleach.

I'd say it's a classic (biased Mom of a lovely Dominic)
